Embracing the Rain: A Culinary Journey with Wasantha
Galle, a city rich in history and culture, offers a unique opportunity to embrace the rain with indoor adventures that are as enriching as they are enjoyable. On April 12th and 13th, the weather forecast predicts a predominantly rainy and overcast atmosphere, making it the perfect time to dive into the culinary traditions of Sri Lanka.
Start your day with Cooking with Wasantha, a delightful experience that begins at 10:00 AM. Wasantha, a master of Sri Lankan cuisine, welcomes you with a hot cup of ginger tea before whisking you away on a tuk-tuk ride to the Dutch market. Here, you’ll learn about the history of the market and the health benefits of the fresh vegetables you’ll select. The journey continues to the fish market, where you’ll choose the freshest catch of the day. Back in the kitchen, Wasantha guides you through the preparation of five traditional curries, teaching you the art of making coconut milk and perfecting rice. The experience culminates in a personal buffet, where you can savor the fruits of your labor.
Reviewed on 2025-04-01: This was the best cooking class - A great Sri Lankan cooking class. Going to the Old Dutch Market in Galle was a great way to start it off by picking fresh ingredients and deciding what curries we would make. Wasantha was very knowledgeable and we all got to learn and have a go. At the end, we all got to sit down and eat our well-earned lunch. I would highly recommend this class.
Discovering Galle’s Hidden Gems
