It is popular for being the path in Madeira with the most breathtaking views because of the weather diversity along the hike. You will feel that you walk “above the clouds” and on the challenging path you will find a few tunnel-walks and the famous “stairs to heaven”.

Pico Ruivo - Pico Ruivo, with 1862 meters of altitude is the highest mountain in Madeira Island, it is also the third highest mountain in all Portugal. To access the peak you must arrive walking. The absolute best way is from Pico do Arieiro (the 3rd highest mountain on the island with 1810 meters of altitude).

This hike from Pico Do Arieiro To Pico Ruivo To Achada Do Teixeira is 11 km long (4:30 hours in total). Level: Medium-Hard.

Santana - At the end of the hike, in the drive from Achada Do Teixeira to Funchal/Caniço, we will pass by without stopping in front of the triangle Santana houses.

Once we’ve gathered all guests (maximum of 8) from their residential locations in Funchal or Caniço (exclusively), our journey to Pico Do Arieiro begins. There you can marvel at the spectacular hike to Pico Ruivo, the island’s highest peak! Be prepared for jaw-dropping scenery!

Embark on this famous trail at your own pace and confront the challenging ‘stairs to heaven’. Experience walking ‘above the clouds’, or stick with other guests if you prefer. We will be at the trail’s end to take you back to your accommodation.

The hike journey spans from Pico Do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo to Achada Do Teixeira (11 km = 4:45 hours in total). Difficulty Grade: Medium-Hard.

For customers coming by car to Funchal from other parts of the island outside our pick-up areas (Funchal and Caniço) we recommend to park at Parque 2000 as it is the cheapest and most comfortable parking of Funchal center. We will pick you and drop you there.

Fantastic experience - A tough walk but well worth it … hard on the knees ….. definitely need to be an active person. fantastic experience . Our driver Micheal was amazing gave us a lot of information about the island on the drive up and sone recommendations .We will for sure use this company and highly recommend. Elizabeth gave alot of information before hand to be prepared for the hike .

Very nice hike, with excellent views. - We where picked up by the hotel, and the driver was helpful and told us about the trip, and gave us a lot of information about Madeira in general. He picked us up after the trip, and we did not have to wait for him. The trip was nice, and maybe not so crowdy because it was in the beginning of april.

The best way to see PR1 - This is the absoloute best way to do PR1 Pico arieiro to pico ruivo hike, the hike itself takes 4 hours and is quite physically challenging especially in warmer weather so i would strongly reccomend booking picotransfer as opposed to a hire car. The transfer itself was brilliant, driver michael on time and extremely helpful and friendly. Drop off is right at the top as opposed to the car park in which it would be an extra 30 minute walk to the start of the hike. Text message the day before with weather updates and other useful information. Highly reccomend this transfer if doing PR1 in madeira (:
