“Beautiful reconstruction of the original castle”
Kumamoto Castle (熊本城, Kumamotojō) is among Japan’s most remarkable castles. With expansive grounds and numerous buildings, it offers one of the most comprehensive castle experiences in Japan.
Only a few structures have remained intact since the castle’s original construction in 1607. The castle keep and most other buildings are modern reconstructions, yet they are of high quality, with new structures continually being added. With approximately 800 cherry trees, the castle becomes a popular cherry blossom viewing spot in late March and early April.
