Motosuko Lake - Motosuko was created when an eruption by Mount Fuji divided a larger prehistoric lake into three smaller lakes in the 9th century. The resulting lakes, Motosuko, Saiko, and Shojiko, remain interconnected by underground waterways, maintaining a consistent water level of 900 meters above sea level.
-
Oshino Hakkai - A stunning collection of eight ponds is scattered around Oshino Hakkai, each with its own unique story.
Hakkai, or “Eight Seas,” refers to the eight pools of water that are the main attraction at Oshino Hakkai. Bridges and pathways guide you around and over these serene ponds. The traditional thatched roof buildings, gently turning water wheels, and the magnificent view of Mt. Fuji transport you to another era.
- Mt. Fuji 5th Station - The Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station (富士スバルライン五合目, Fuji Subaru Line Gogōme, also known as Yoshidaguchi 5th Station or Kawaguchiko 5th Station) is situated approximately halfway along the Yoshida Trail, which extends from Fujiyoshida Sengen Shrine at the mountain’s base to the summit of Mount Fuji.
It is the most frequented of the four 5th stations on Mount Fuji and is the best developed and most accessible by public transportation from Tokyo. The Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station is accessible almost year-round, weather permitting, and is a popular sightseeing spot even outside the climbing season.
Entrance fees: ¥2500 per group.
- Lake Kawaguchiko - Lake Kawaguchiko (河口湖) is the most easily accessible of the Fuji Five Lakes, with train and direct bus connections to Tokyo. A hot spring resort town with various tourist attractions and views of Mount Fuji is located around the lake’s eastern end, while the northern and western shores remain largely undeveloped.
The best views of Mount Fuji can be enjoyed from the lake’s northern shores and are particularly stunning during the cherry blossom season around mid-April and the autumn colors in the first half of November. One of the most beautiful spots for cherry blossoms is the lakeside promenade near the Kawaguchiko Music Forest, while photographers will appreciate the “Momiji Tunnel” for autumn colors, a maple tree-lined road section further west.
