- Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima - This Marian pilgrimage site commemorates the apparitions of Our Lady to the three shepherd children, Lúcia, Francisco, and Jacinta, which took place in 1917 and were officially recognized in 1930. The location was originally a rural property known as Cova da Iria, owned by Lúcia’s parents, who generously donated it to the sanctuary. It was here that five of the six apparitions occurred. The Sanctuary features the Chapel of Apparitions, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Prayer Room, and the Basilica of the Holy Trinity. Additionally, the Sanctuary includes the Retreat Houses of Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, as well as the Paul VI Pastoral Center.
As a place of religious significance, visitors are welcome to explore at their leisure.
- Fatima - Fátima is a city in central Portugal, renowned for the Sanctuary of Fátima, a significant Catholic pilgrimage destination. The Chapel of Apparitions marks the site where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared in 1917.
- Nazare - The lighthouse, established in the São Miguel Fort since 1903, aids in navigation and currently has a light range of 15 miles, complemented by an audible warning signal during heavy fog. It is also the prime location to witness the giant waves generated by the “Nazaré canyon” and Praia do Norte.
This will be our lunch stop.
- Obidos Village - The medieval village of Óbidos is one of Portugal’s most charming and well-preserved towns, gaining prosperity after being chosen by the royal family. Since King D. Dinis gifted it to his wife, Queen D. Isabel, in the 13th century, it has belonged to the House of the Queens, who have enriched it over various dynasties. This is why there are so many churches in this quaint town. Within its walls, visitors will find a well-preserved castle and a maze of streets and white houses that captivate all who visit. The Mother Church of Santa Maria, the Church of Mercy, the Church of San Pedro, the Pelourinho, and outside the walls, the Aqueduct and the Sanctuary of the Lord Jesus of the Stone, with its round design, are some of the monuments that merit a thorough visit.
