• Fatima - This Marian pilgrimage site commemorates the apparitions of Our Lady to the three shepherd children, Lúcia, Francisco, and Jacinta, which took place in 1917 and were officially recognized in 1930. The location, originally a rural property known as Cova da Iria, belonged to Lúcia’s parents, who donated it to the sanctuary. Five of the six apparitions occurred here.

The Sanctuary features the Chapel of Apparitions, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Prayer Room, and the Basilica of the Holy Trinity. Additionally, the Retreat Houses of Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, along with the Paul VI Pastoral Center, complement the Sanctuary.

It stands as one of the most significant Marian shrines of the Catholic Church globally and is a major international destination for religious tourism, attracting approximately six million visitors annually. It has been visited by Popes Paul VI (1967), John Paul II (1982, 1991, and 2000), Benedict XVI (2010), and Francis (2017 and 2023).

• Valinhos Sanctuary - Just a short distance from the Sanctuary lies Valinhos, a quaint village where the children and their families resided and from where they would take the animals to graze. The homes of Francisco and Jacinta (siblings) and their cousin Lúcia de Jesus are well-preserved.

• Batalha Monastery - Visits are limited to the church. Commissioned in 1386 by King John I of Portugal as a gesture of gratitude to the Virgin Mary for the victory over Castilian adversaries in the Battle of Aljubarrota, this monastery of the Order of Saint Dominic was constructed over two centuries until around 1563, during the reign of seven Portuguese kings, although the first Dominican friars settled there in 1388.

An exemplar of Portuguese late Gothic architecture, or Manueline style, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

• Nazare - The fishing village of Nazaré, renowned as the most charismatic fishing village in Portugal, offers sights of fish drying on the beach and the traditional life of women proudly wearing the “seven skirts.” Today, Nazaré is also famous for its giant waves, the largest in the world, thanks to the Nazaré Canyon phenomenon. These extraordinary waves have brought global fame to Nazaré, with American surfer McNamara setting a world record in 2013 by surfing a wave approximately 30 meters high. Depending on the time of year, these waves can be witnessed firsthand.

• Castelo de Obidos - Take time to explore one of Portugal’s most beautiful villages, nestled within the walls of a medieval castle. Óbidos was part of the defensive pentagon of five castles, initially under the Templars’ control, and later given as a wedding gift from King Dinis to his wife, Queen Isabel. The town became part of the Casa das Rainhas, where many Portuguese queens resided, leaving significant contributions. Here, one can also discover the renowned and cherished liqueur, Óbidos ginja.
