- Temple of Heracle - The Temple of Hercules, the oldest Doric temple in the Valley of the Temples, also dates back to the 5th century BC. - Statua di Icaro Caduto - This striking bronze sculpture of Icarus, crafted by esteemed Polish artist Igor Mitoraj, portrays the myth of Icarus, who fell into the sea after his wax wings melted from flying too close to the sun. Positioned before the Temple of Concordia, the statue embodies the myth and human vulnerability, providing a modern element to the ancient Valley of the Temples.
- Telamone dell’Olympeion - The Telamon in the Valley of the Temples is an enormous stone sculpture, over 7 meters high, originally used as an external support for the Temple of Jupiter. The guided tour of Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples transports visitors back in time to the Doric temples of the Hellenic period, one of the largest and most breathtaking archaeological sites globally.
The tour begins with the Temple of Hera Lacinia, constructed in 450 BC on the Rupe Atenea hill, featuring Doric columns. Dedicated to Juno, it originally contained a painting of the goddess of women and fertility. Nearby stands the impressive Temple of Concordia, the second best-preserved Doric temple after the Parthenon, thanks to its conversion into a Christian church. In front, the bronze statue of Icarus by sculptor Igor Mitoraj illustrates his descent into the sea.
The next stop is the Temple of Hercules, named for a bronze statue of the hero within, surrounded by prickly pear trees and offering stunning valley views. The tour concludes at the Temple of Jupiter, once among the largest classical temples, now partially ruined by earthquakes. A reconstructed 7-meter Telamon highlights the magnificence of these ancient structures.
