WOW!! Mr Franklin was so knowledgeable and very well versed on the history of Charleston!! I am so glad I chose his tour. We take a tour of every city we visit and he was hands down the best. He was able to provide of with stories of historic sites, accurate African-American history and the history of surrounding plantations. I would take his tour 10 more times if we were still in the city. His tour was the highlight of our trip!!

Franklin's tour is about the people who actually did the work in antebellum Charleston—the black slaves and free people—rather than just those who profited from their labor. The homes, churches, community and history. A lot of it, unfortunately, is of a disappearing Charleston, as the blacks, their houses and their communities are being ever-more-rapidly displaced by gentrification as better-off whites return to the city and remake it in their own image. Supplement this tour with the McLeod Plantation tour and you will learn more real history than hours spent touring the homes of the sea island cotton and rice plantation owners in the "historic" district!
