- Rwenzori - DAY 1- FROM IBANDA TO OMU’KA KIZZA REST CAMP (2,977 M)
Begin the trek at Nyakalenjija, journeying through the untouched rainforest of Kyambogho ridge with views of the Mubuku Valley. Ascend the densely forested ridge, home to various primates like the black and white colobus monkey, blue monkey, and occasionally the L’hoest monkey, reaching the Omu’ka Kizza Rest Camp at 2,977 meters. Enjoy breathtaking views over the Rwenzori foothills and Kasese town, 2,160 meters below. Listen for chimpanzees and spot black and white colobus, blue monkeys, and the Rwenzori turaco.
DAY 2 – OMU’KA KIZZA REST CAMP TO MAHOMA LAKE
After an early breakfast, hike to Mahoma Lake. The forest path leads along a narrow, moss-covered ridge up to 3,515 meters.
DAY 3 – MAHOMA LAKE TO IBANDA
Following breakfast, take a walk around the lake before descending through the Nyabitaba ranger post and the Mpanga ridge to rejoin the Mubuku valley.
DAY 4 – JOHN MATTE HUT (3,350 M)
From Nyabitaba, follow the trail that descends through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, located just below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Pass through the bamboo forest.
