• Mosquito Lagoon - Situated in east-central Florida, the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve is found in southern Volusia County, just south of Ponce de Leon Inlet. It is near the cities of New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater, and approximately 50 miles northeast of Orlando.

The Mosquito Lagoon is a component of the Indian River Lagoon (IRL) system, which is a long, wide, and shallow estuarine lagoon bordered by the Florida mainland to the west and a series of barrier islands to the east.

This aquatic preserve is located in the northernmost sub-basin of the IRL system and is classified as a bar-built estuary. The IRL system extends 156 miles from Ponce de Leon Inlet in the north to Jupiter Inlet in the south.

The lagoon is a habitat for bottlenose dolphins, sea turtles, manatees, various fish species, alligators, and birds. It also supports the northernmost range of red and black mangrove habitats, as well as low and high marsh habitats, extensive oyster bars, and tidal flats.
