- Tikal National Park - Upon arrival at Tikal’s main entrance, the park ranger will check the park admission tickets. These tickets are not included in the tour and should be purchased in advance through the bank system or online at https://boletos.culturaguate.com. Two tickets are needed: Park Admission Q.150.00 and Dawn Q.100, totaling Q.250.00 or USD 34.00. It’s crucial to have these tickets with you. After this, a 20-minute drive takes us to the Visitor Center.
- Tikal Visitor Center - At the Visitor Center, entrance tickets to Tikal National Park are checked. It’s important to keep your tickets handy. A bracelet will be provided, and the journey into the jungle towards Temple IV begins, guided by a local expert. The itinerary highlights the most significant points in Tikal, with additional insights into other structures along the way.
- Temple IV - At Temple IV, also known as the Bicephalous Serpent, visitors can climb to witness the spectacular dawn and the awakening of the jungle. There will be time for photography and to enjoy the view from the top of Tikal.
- Lost World - The Lost World is Tikal’s largest ceremonial Preclassic Complex, offering a 360-degree panoramic view. Visitors can appreciate many of Tikal’s structures, with time allocated for photos and observing the Mayan Biosphere Reserve.
- Great Plaza - The Great Plaza is a must-see, surrounded by impressive buildings, including Temple I (the Great Jaguar) and Temple II (the Masks), both of which can be climbed for a better view of Temple I. The guide will provide archaeological and historical insights, transporting visitors back to the era of the Great Mayan Civilization.
- Temple I - Known as the Great Jaguar, Temple I is a ceremonial structure built by the Mayans, standing 45 meters tall. It is a key attraction in Tikal and represents the grandeur of the Mayan Civilization, located within the Great Plaza.
- Tikal Temple V - Temple V, one of Tikal’s best-preserved structures, stands 57 meters tall, making it the second tallest in Tikal. Visitors will have time for photos and exploration before returning to the Visitor Center, marking the end of the archaeological tour.
- Tikal Visitor Center - The tour concludes at the Visitor Center, where a scale model of Tikal, restrooms, craft shops, a café, and a restaurant are available. Free time is given before boarding the bus back to Hotel y Restaurante Las Gardenias.
- Hotel y Restaurante Las Gardenias - After returning from Tikal, visitors can enjoy lunch and rest at this location. The bus for the sunset tour in Yaxhá will arrive at 12:45, with all arrangements coordinated by the tour organizers.
- Centro de Visitantes - The tour continues for about an hour to the Visitor Center, where restrooms and the payment point for Yaxhá Nakun Naranjo National Park admission are located. The cost is Q.80.00 per person (cash in Guatemalan currency).
- Sitio Arqueologico Yaxha - After purchasing tickets, a short drive leads to the parking area, where visitors will explore the Yaxhá Archaeological Site.
- YO AMO PETEN - The tour concludes with a return to Flores, Peten, arriving back at the original meeting point. The tour ends with cherished memories of this unique experience in the heart of the Mayan World.

Excellent - It was spectacular, our guide Luis in Tikal is the best!!!, the sunrise experience, the tour, hearing the animals wake up with the best description by Luis was incredible. Highly recommended. Doing both tours in 1 day can be tired, especially if you have already been traveling for several days, however I found it ideal if you do not have so much time.

Great places, organization to review - The places are beautiful: in addition to visiting the beautiful temples, local guides provided a lot of information about the local history and fauna. We saw so many monkeys and birds, even the toucan.
The only negative note was the agency that did not specify that the bus, full of people, with seats in the corridor and without seat belts, was shared with travelers from other agencies, so it should be specified that the bus does not say the name of the agency but you have to ask the various buses at the Flores stop which is the right one for your tour. Ditto for the bus to go to Yaxha in the afternoon.

Climbed a lot of... - Climbed a lot of pyramids, and saw a bunch of birds, monkeys, and other wildlife!
The ruins are beautiful (especially yaxha) and the tour guides for both tours were super enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the ruins, and gave us a detailed history debrief. They also gave us space to explore on our own so we weren’t attached to the group the entire time. I met a lot of other solo travelers in my group which was nice.
The only thing is, the Tikal and Yaxha tours are booked with two different companies, and I was the only one in my Tikal group who was also doing Yaxha same day, so they dropped me off alone at a random bus station in el remate with no details about when the next shuttle was coming. It was extremely chaotic until I finally got a hold of someone on whatsapp who lmk that the next shuttle was coming over an hour later.
The communication could definitely be improved, but overall I still had a great time.

Rough start but good pay off - Contact was good at first but day before less than 12 hours before and then no response after that left us confused on where to meet (we just went to yo Amo Peten sign. But guide Loyd was great: knowledgeable and invited questions. I loved my experience. Including holding the tarantula! Also advisable to bring flashlights for the dark walk to Temple IV for sunrise.

Excellent but very tired - It's an entire day to see two archaeological sites! Very complete!
The dawn in the forest in Tikal is an excellent experience even if you do not see the sunrise we have the noises of animals, flying tucans, monkeys waking up! The sunset in Iaxha is fantastic.
But there's one other way, it's very tired because you leave Flores at 3:00 a.m. and you return at 19:30.

Good experience - It is possible that due to climatic conditions (rain or presence of haze) the sunrise can be observed, however, it is still a unique experience to hear and see the awakening of the jungle.

Bad Timing and No Sunset or Sunrise - This is a sunrise and sunset tour and I didn’t really get to see either one of them. First, the sunrise wasn’t visible (not the tour company’s fault and don’t blame them of course), but even if there was a visible sunrise we arrived too late to find any good seats. I wouldn’t have been able to see it because I was sitting on the ground behind a bunch of people. We should have arrived sooner rather than looking for tarantulas or the driver getting coffee and snacks while we waited. There was no urgency to get us to the sunrise location. Second, we had to leave the sunset site before the sunset was at its peak. The timing needs to be better in my opinion. Overall, this is a very long day and that’s marked clearly so just be aware that you will be exhausted at the end and if you decide to book, I hope you get to see a sunrise or sunset or both.

Don’t book with this company - Don’t waste your time, book with someone else. Our ‘tour guide’ spent the entire tour sleeping, and giving us ‘free time’ to wonder around. He shared almost no information about Tikal itself, so I learnt absolutely nothing. We actually found ourselves loitering near other guides and listening in to try to actually learn and understand something about where we were. Find another company!
