The grand Palazzo Pitti was constructed by the merchant Luca Pitti as a powerful display of his wealth and influence to his competitors, the Medici. In 1549, when Eleanor of Toledo, wife of Cosimo I, acquired the palace, its grandeur was enhanced and the stunning Boboli Gardens were created behind it. It became the official residence of the Medici dynasty of grand dukes after Cosimo I relocated here from Palazzo Vecchio.

You’ll also marvel at Palazzo Vecchio, a splendid example of civil architecture, and discover an open-air museum featuring various masterpieces, including a replica of Michelangelo’s David, right in front of Palazzo Vecchio. The tour continues through the Uffizi Gallery’s wings, along the Arno River, towards Ponte Vecchio with its gold jewelry shops, and offers a glimpse of the river’s opposite side. Please arrive 15 minutes early for check-in.
