• Galleria dell’Accademia - This visit includes the Academy Gallery, home to Michelangelo’s renowned sculpture, David. Besides David, the gallery also features other sculptures and an extensive collection of paintings by Florentine artists.

• Duomo - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore - The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (viewed from outside) is Florence’s main church, featuring a stunning dome designed by Brunelleschi. Begun in 1296 in the Gothic style based on a design by Arnolfo di Cambio, it was structurally completed in 1436 with Brunelleschi’s dome. The exterior is adorned with polychrome marble panels in green and pink, bordered by white, and boasts an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris.

• Battistero di San Giovanni - The Baptistery of San Giovanni (viewed from outside) is situated in Piazza Duomo, opposite the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, and is one of Florence’s most significant monuments. Its origins are uncertain, but it is believed to have been built on the ruins of an ancient Roman temple dedicated to the god Mars around the 4th-5th century AD. The first recorded mention dates back to 897 when it was referred to as a basilica. In 1128, it officially became the city’s baptistery, where baptisms were conducted. Named after the city’s patron saint, the baptistery features an octagonal plan, a dome with eight segments covered by a pyramid roof, and an exterior decorated with white Carrara marble and green Prato marble, typical of Florentine Romanesque architecture.

• Campanile di Giotto - Next to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore stands Giotto’s Bell Tower (viewed from outside). This majestic bell tower is a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture. It has a square base measuring approximately 15 meters per side, with corner reinforcements that rise to a horizontal cantilevered crown at a height of 84.7 meters.

• Piazza della Signoria - Since the 14th century, Piazza della Signoria has been the heart of Florence’s political life. The square has witnessed significant historical events and triumphs, such as the return of the Medici in 1530. The famous sculptures in Piazza della Signoria reflect Florence’s political history. Michelangelo’s David, originally placed in front of Palazzo Vecchio, symbolizes the power of the Florentine Republic against Medici tyranny. Bandinelli’s Hercules and Cacus (1534) represents the family’s physical strength.

• Ponte Vecchio - Originally built near a Roman-era crossing, the Ponte Vecchio was the only bridge crossing the Arno in Florence until 1218. Above the bridge, you can see part of the Vasari Corridor, constructed in 1565 by Giorgio Vasari. This corridor, commissioned by the Medici, allowed them to move safely from Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti without traversing the streets of Florence. Initially, butchers’ shops lined the Ponte Vecchio, but in 1593, the Medici replaced them with goldsmith shops to create a more “decorous” environment.
