The Accademia Gallery is an essential destination for those wanting to appreciate Michelangelo’s famous creation, the original David. This is just one of his many masterpieces showcased here, with others being the Palestrina Pietà, Saint Matthew, and the incomplete Prisoners series.
During our guided tour in the Room of the Colossus, we take time to appreciate the plaster prototype of Jean de Boulogne’s most renowned sculpture, the Rape of the Sabine Women. Though the actual sculpture is now at Loggia dei Lanzi in Piazza della Signoria, this tour focuses on a curated selection of Florentine paintings from the XIV-XVIth century located at the Gallery.
The Accademia’s Gypsothech hosts an intriguing collection of XIX century gypsum models by sculptors like Lorenzo Bartolini and Luigi Pampaloni.
As we proceed through the tour, we also explore the collection of musical instruments from the Conservatoire, including two of the three remaining instruments of the Medici String Quintet, crafted by the renowned Stradivarius for the Grand Duke.
