Muscat-Sinkhole-Fins Beach-Wadi Shab-Sur-Ras Al Hadd
Bimmah Sinkhole - The tour begins in Muscat in the morning, heading towards Ras Al Hadd, with the first stop at Bimmah Sinkhole. Swimming in the sinkhole lake is an option. Bimmah Sinkhole is a water-filled depression, structurally a sinkhole, in the limestone of the eastern Muscat Governorate in Oman. It features a lake of turquoise waters, measuring 50 m by 70 m wide and approximately 20 m deep. Located about 600 m from the sea, between the coastal towns of Dibab and Bimmah village, the sinkhole was formed by the collapse of the surface layer due to the dissolution of the underlying limestone. To preserve the sinkhole, the local municipality developed a park there.
Fins Beach - After visiting Bimmah Sinkhole, the tour stops at Fins Beach, also known as White Sands Beach. It offers a panorama of strikingly white sands and an intriguingly pebbly beach, with sparkling turquoise waters and a soft, cool breeze.
Wadi Shab - From Fins Beach, the tour proceeds to Wadi Shab, an enormous canyon gorge lined with palm trees and impressive evidence of the power of water descending from the mountains. After a 35 to 40-minute hike through the canyon (walking shoes or trainers are required), visitors arrive at one of the crystal-clear water pools. Tourists can swim through the warm waters from pool to pool, eventually reaching the last pool where an opening among the enormous rocks allows swimming into an incredible crevice cave with a small waterfall. Inside, sunlight filters in from the outside, turning the water into a beautiful turquoise blue while water showers down one side of the cave from the Wadi beyond.
Sur - The journey continues to the City of Sur, home to the famous Arabian Dhow Factory, where traditional wooden Dhows are built. Visitors will explore the old part of Sur, where most houses feature wooden doors and windows.
Al Hadd - The tour proceeds to Ras Al Hadd. In the evening, after dinner, guests are taken to the turtle sanctuary at Ras Al Jinz for a guided walking tour on the beach at night under the stars. There is a high chance of seeing Oman’s great sea turtles coming ashore to build nests and lay eggs. If lucky, visitors might even witness baby turtles hatching from some nests.
Ras Al Hadd-Al Ashkharah-Jalan-Wahiba Sands
Wahiba Sands - From Al Ashkharah, the tour continues to the desert (Wahiba Sands) through Jaalan. This spectacular desert covers an area of 12,500 square kilometers and is also known as Al Sharqiya Sands, formerly “The Wahiba Sands.” It is a desert region in Oman named after the Bani Wahiba tribe, divided between the northern and southern governorates in the eastern region. The area is defined by a boundary of 180 km (110 mi) north to south and 80 km (50 mi) east to west. Participants can enjoy an adventurous 4×4 drive in the sand dunes with an experienced guide, followed by watching the stunning sunset at one of the large sand dunes. The day concludes with dinner at the camp.
Wahiba Sands-Wadi Bani Khalid-Wahiba Sands
Wadi Bani Khalid - In the morning, the tour heads to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of the largest and most beautiful wadis in Oman. After reaching the magnificent wadi, a short walk of approximately 10 minutes (walking shoes are required) leads to sparkling clear water pools 9 meters deep, perfect for a long swim, relaxation, and sunbathing in the beautiful scenic wadi canyon.
Afterward, the tour returns to the camp in the desert.
Wahiba Sands–Al Mudhaireb-Ibra-Zukait Tower Tombs–Birkat Al Moz-Nizwa
Ibra - From Al Mudhaireb, the tour visits the ancient village of Ibra, which is over 1000 years old. Built from mud and limestone, visitors can walk around the village, which is not completely abandoned as some people still reside there.
Zukait Tombs - From Ibra, on the way to Nizwa, the tour stops at the village of Zukait to see cylindrical tombs dating back to the third millennium BC. Located on a hilltop in Zukait, they are made of mountain rock stacked to create a distinctive beehive shape.
Birkat Al Mouz Ruins - From Zukait, the journey continues to Birkat Al Moz, which features a large falaj system supplying water to date palms and vegetables for many orchards. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage and Culture site. It’s worth spending time walking around the old part of the village.
A short drive from Birkat Al Moz leads to Nizwa, the old capital of Oman. After hotel check-in, guests have free leisure time for the rest of the day.
Nizwa Market (Souq) and Fort-Jabal Akhdar (Green Mountain)-Nizwa
Nizwa Souk - The day starts early with a visit to the Nizwa Souq, where a wide variety of vendors offer their goods in the streets. Visitors can find vegetables, pottery, jewelry, handicrafts, Omani sweets (Halwa), dates, spices, and souvenirs sold in authentic old market halls. The Friday cattle market is especially interesting, as locals from nearby towns come to sell their goats, cattle, sheep, and chickens in a circus-style open marketplace.
Nizwa Fort Oman - Adjacent to the souq is Nizwa Fortress, now a museum offering splendid views of this ancient town and the surrounding mountains. Visitors can explore the impressive fortress, visiting its many rooms, passages, and towers. The fort is an architectural testament to the economic and military achievements of the early Yaruba dynasty from the mid-17th century. It was a military stronghold designed to withstand even the strongest attacks of the time, with traps laid along the corridors to deter intruders.
Jabal Akhdar - From Nizwa, the tour drives up to Jabal Akhdar, known as the Green Mountain. It is considered one of the most scenic areas in Oman and is part of the Al Hajar Mountain Range. Jebel Akhdar is so-called because of the presence of green terraced gardens surrounding the villages. A variety of fruits like pomegranates, apricots, apples, olives, grapes, roses, peaches, and walnuts are grown here. There are interesting walks in Wadi Bani Habib, Shrejah, Al Ain, and Al Aqur.
Nizwa-Jabreen Castle-Misfat Al Abriyeen-Wadi Nakhar-Jabal Shams (Grand Canyon)
Jibreen Castle - The tour heads to Jebel Shams Mountain (The Grand Canyon of Oman), stopping at Jabreen Castle along the way. Originally designed as a presidential palace in 1670 by Balarab bin Sultan bin Saif Ya’arubi Dynasty, the castle underwent extensive renovation in 1984. The interior includes various furniture and traditional utensils, providing visitors with a taste of the period castle lifestyle. The building is decorated with elaborate wood carvings, ceiling paintings, and stucco work.
Misfat al Abreyeen - From Jabreen Castle, the tour proceeds to Misfat Al Abreyeen, a picturesque village on a steep slope at the foot of Jebel Shams. It consists of old homes and narrow streets and has a falaj system for many orchards, date palms, and vegetables. It’s worth spending time walking around the village, then visiting the ancient village of Al Hamra.
Wadi Nakhr Canyon - From Misfat Al Abreyeen, the tour drives to Wadi Ghul, a 2000-year-old village located at the foot of Mountain Ghul, visible on the way to Jabal Shams. It has been abandoned by its inhabitants and was built of solid stones. From there, the tour drives into Wadi Nakhar, offering beautiful sites and spectacular views. The name derives from the local word “necrosis,” meaning the process of rock sculpture “erosion,” as the water of this valley formed over time.
Wadi Al Nakhar is one of the deepest valleys in Oman due to its geographical characteristics. The great gap in Jabal Shams is considered the most important water source, as its large opening leads to valleys and reefs that form the valley of Al Nakhar.
Jabal Shams - From Wadi Nakhar, the tour starts driving up to Jebel Shams Mountain (The Grand Canyon of Oman). This mountain road ascends to Jebel Shams, 3009 meters high, offering an adventurous off-road experience and fantastic views. Visitors reach the canyon view, which is 2000 meters high, to enjoy the view and take photos before heading to the resort for the night.
Jabal Shams- Balad Sayt- Snake Canyon-Wadi Bani Awf-Nakhal Fort-Muscat.
Balad Sayt - In the morning, the tour descends the mountain on the other side (east) into Wadi Bani Awf. This mountain road drive is an exciting off-road experience, offering fantastic views into dramatic canyons and wadis as it winds down several kilometers before connecting with Wadi Bani Awf.
The tour passes several villages, with the most beautiful being Balad Sayt, surrounded by mountains from all directions. Upon reaching the valley (Wadi Bani Awf), the tour also passes by impressive wadi canyons (Snake Canyon). The road leads through the wadi while passing numerous small villages.
Nakhal Fort - From there, the journey continues to Nakhal, where visitors can explore the beautiful Nakhal Fortress. It lies at the foothills of the mountains in a charming small town with extensive date palm plantations. This magnificent 1500-year-old fortress rises out of the mountain rock, towering high above the ancient village as if still warning would-be attackers of its ominous strength. It has witnessed many battles and is packed with hidden escape routes and secret passages. Visitors can stroll around the inside of this restored fortress and visit all the rooms, which have been nicely decorated in the original old style. The view from the top of the fortress over the mountains and green date plantations is outstanding.
