Saddle Up for Adventure

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can bring families closer together while exploring the world. Our kids were given two well-behaved horses, though one of them, Pina Colada, had a penchant for snacking on the hedges along the way!

The trek took us through olive groves and up into the mountains, offering breathtaking views of the valley below. The horses followed a lead horse ridden by one of the staff, ensuring a safe and enjoyable ride for everyone. We were part of a group of nine, and it was wonderful to meet fellow travelers from various nations, all sharing in this unique experience.

Halfway through the ride, we took a short break to enjoy some refreshing orange slices, water, and watermelon. It was the perfect opportunity to take in the stunning scenery and snap a few family photos. The kids were having a blast, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for this special family bonding time.

A Taste of Crete

After our ride, we returned to the stables, where a delicious Cretan lunch awaited us. Although we hadn’t initially planned to stay for lunch, the staff graciously offered us a small plate of local delicacies. The meatballs were amazing, and the homemade wine was a delightful treat. It was a lovely way to end our adventure, sitting in the garden, savoring the flavors of Crete.

As we headed back to our hotel, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s experience. The combination of stunning scenery, friendly staff, and well-behaved horses made for an unforgettable family outing.
