• Stiftskirche - This iconic city landmark, a former cloister church, retains its Romanesque roots with Gothic influences, especially in the choir. The altar dedicated to St. Mary was crafted in the late 15th century by Michael Wohlgemut, who taught the renowned German medieval painter Albrecht Dürer.
• Johanniskirche - Once the city’s parish church, it boasts 15th-century ceiling frescoes in the choir, while the Baroque altar was completed at the end of the 17th century. Also noteworthy is the 15th-century sandstone relief of Jörg von Ehenheims, a medieval knight.
• Oberes Tor - The Upper Gate is the city’s sole remaining Baroque gateway, beautifully restored by the city. It serves as a venue for numerous events, including plays, concerts, and other cultural activities.
• Zum Taubenbrünnlein - Discover the legend of Charlemagne’s hunt and the founding of the cloister church. The story tells of the great emperor hunting here a few years before his death in 814, witnessing a pigeon take flight, and finding a fresh water source. After regaining his strength, he continued his hunt and, in gratitude to God, built a church and cloister here, from which the city developed.
