Hidden Gems of Sao Miguel. - Great tour by Pure Azores and guide Joao. The scenery gets better with each turn of the road. Joao was so attentive to each guest and especially caring for my husband with mobility issues. He goes out of his way to make sure everyone is accommodated. You don’t want to miss this tour.

Best tour guide ever! Hidden Gem Tour was amazing! - Joao is the most wonderful tour guide ever! He's so kind and makes sure everyone is comfortable. He is so knowledgeable about the locations and the island culture. Today's locations were fantastic. He gives ample time at each stop and accompanies us. Oh and smiles for miles! Amazing Tour - One of the best tours we’ve ever had. It ended up being a private tour and yet the company still let it go through. Gonçalo was our guide and he really took the time and even personalized the journey a bit. He took the time to connect with each and everyone of us and really tailored the tour to our interests. A good driver as well.

Fabulous - We were lucky to have João DaCosta as our guide, he made the entire day feel genuinely connected to the spirit of the island. Beyond his solid planning and clear knowledge of every route and viewpoint, he brought a personal touch that made the experience stand out. He introduced us to local dishes that reflect the island’s flavors, played music that carries its atmosphere, and shared stories that helped us understand the places not just as locations, but as living parts of the community. His attitude was warm, respectful, and easygoing—creating a comfortable environment without ever losing professionalism. The balance between smooth logistics and authentic cultural insight made the trip memorable on more than one level.

The True "Hidden Jewelry" of St. Michael – Thank you, John! - I took this trip today with my father and it was the perfect decision for us to escape to the usual tourist routes. The tour fulfills exactly what it promises: it led us to incredible places that we would hardly have discovered on our own. The itinerary is fantastic and very diverse: from the tranquility of walking through the water canal (levada) to the dam, passing through the impressive lava formations on the coast and the old whale guard with a superb view over the ocean. The final, with the short walk between the waterfall and the beach, was the 'cerese at the top of the cake'. Buffet lunch at a local restaurant was also great and authentic. A special thanks to our guide, John. In addition to being an excellent driver and extremely friendly, it was noted that he is a real local expert. He was able to adapt the rhythm for me and my father, making the day light, fun and very educational. If you want to see the true essence of St. Michael, beyond the obvious, and with the best company, I highly recommend this experience!

Skip the cruise ship excursion and do this instead! - This one of the best excursions I’ve ever taken. First, the group is tiny. There’ll never be more than eight, and in my case, there were two of us solo travelers, plus the driver. Second, we were in a car, which meant we were free to go anywhere. Best of all, however, is the fact that throughout the day, we didn’t see a single tourist. We saw the most beautiful remote places, like waterfalls and hot springs and jungle-like walking paths and beaches as if we were the only people who knew about them. It was like having a friend casually driving us around. There were no stops at sales-pressuring businesses or over-crowded attractions. If you’re on a cruise ship, I encourage you to skip their excursions and book this one instead. Our guide, Manuel, was friendly and knowledgeable, and he kept an eye on the clock to make sure we got back to the pier an hour before our deadline. I got all of this for a price far below anything the cruise ship had to offer. I have absolutely no complaints or suggestions to improve this trip. It was simply amazing.

A great day! - This was our first full day in Sao Miguel, and our guide, Joao, was the best. He was engaging, attentive to our needs, and as a result we learned much about the country. The day was a nice combination of easy hikes to very interesting sites. Anyone in good shape can do the hikes. Lunch was fabulous. We very much enjoyed the entire day.
