- Hagia Sophia Mosque - Explore the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque, originally built as a church in the fifth century. Renowned for its innovative architecture, rich history, and religious significance, it has withstood the test of time. Once the largest Eastern Roman church, it was constructed three times on the same site. Officially converted into a mosque in 1453 by the Ottomans after the conquest of Constantinople, its breathtaking domes and unique mosaics make it a marvel of architectural history. Learn about its transformation from a church to a mosque.
- Hippodrome - After visiting Hagia Sophia, walk through the area of the Blue Mosque, named for the blue tiles adorning its interior. Built between 1609 and 1616 during Ahmed’s reign, the mosque is currently closed for renovation. Stroll through Sultanahmet Square, stopping at the Obelisk of Theodosius and the Hippodrome of Constantinople, which hosted gladiatorial games, official ceremonies, celebrations, protests, and punishments during the Roman (203-330 CE), Byzantine (330-1453 CE), and Ottoman (1453-1922) periods.
- Sinan Pasha Complex - Proceed to the Sinan Pasha Complex, a distinguished example of classical period architecture. The complex includes a madrasa (school), a tomb, and a fountain, all constructed from carefully cut kufaki stone and enclosed by walls with iron windows. A fountain (sebil) for water distribution is located at the corner of the walls. The center showcases Turkish Islamic culture with various rooms, including a poster display in the courtyard answering frequently asked questions about Islamic faith, Muslim societies, and culture. There is also a Calligraphy Workshop offering a brief history of calligraphy and its significant masters in Turkish Islamic tradition, as well as Hadith classes, which have been a place of learning for over 400 years. The tour concludes here, and the guide will assist with directions if your hotel is far from the meeting point.
