• Argentine Military Cemetery - Located near Darwin Settlement, the journey to the Cemetery takes approximately one hour and 30 minutes on both paved and unpaved roads. The Argentine Cemetery is the final resting place for over 200 Argentine soldiers who perished in the 1982 war. After the British reclaimed the Islands, many of the fallen Argentines were left in temporary graves as Argentine authorities refused to allow the British to return the remains to Argentina, asserting that they were already buried in their homeland. The British commissioned the Cemetery’s creation in December 1982, and upon its completion, the fallen Argentine troops were given a Christian burial with full military honors. Every effort was made to identify each soldier and mark their graves accordingly. However, a few graves bear the inscription “Argentine Soldier Known Only By God.” During your visit, there is time for reflection and to pay respects to the fallen soldiers and their families.
