Sailing the Caribbean: A Luxurious Day on the Zatara Catamaran
When the opportunity to sail on the luxurious Zatara catamaran to Icacos Island presented itself, I couldn’t resist. Join me as I recount a day filled with sun, sea, and snorkeling in the Caribbean, where relaxation and adventure go hand in hand.
Setting Sail on the Zatara
The Caribbean sun was just beginning to rise as I made my way to the Puerto del Rey marina, the starting point for my latest adventure. The promise of a day filled with sun, sea, and snorkeling had me buzzing with excitement. I had heard whispers of the Zatara, a luxury catamaran that offered a more intimate experience compared to the other crowded boats. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours on the water, but the allure of a luxury sail was too tempting to resist.
Upon boarding the Zatara, I was immediately struck by the plush seating and the spaciousness of the vessel. With only 12 of us on board, it felt like a private charter. The crew, Mariel, Mark, and William, greeted us with warm smiles and a promise of endless drinks from the open bar. As we set sail, the gentle rocking of the boat and the salty breeze reminded me of why I love the ocean so much. The views of El Yunque mountains and the Fajardo coastline were breathtaking, setting the perfect backdrop for our journey to Icacos Island.
A Day in Paradise
After a smooth 40-minute sail, we arrived at Icacos Island, a slice of paradise that seemed untouched by time. The sun was shining, and the water was a mesmerizing shade of turquoise. I grabbed a Medalla beer and floated in the warm Caribbean Sea, letting the gentle waves carry away any lingering stress. It was a moment of pure bliss, one that I wished could last forever.
While others swam and explored the beach, I took the opportunity to relax on the catamaran’s trampoline. With a book in hand and the sun on my face, I found myself drifting into a peaceful nap. The tranquility of the moment was unmatched, a rare luxury in today’s fast-paced world. As lunchtime approached, the crew prepared a delicious barbecue feast. The aroma of burgers and chicken filled the air, and I couldn’t help but indulge in the hearty meal. It was a welcome change from the cold sandwiches offered on other boats, and the perfect fuel for the next leg of our adventure.
Snorkeling and Sailing Back
With our appetites satisfied, we set sail for a snorkeling spot. The crew informed us that due to recent rains, the usual spot wasn’t ideal, so they took us to a backup location. Despite the less-than-perfect weather conditions, the snorkeling was fantastic. The water was teeming with colorful fish, and the provided snorkel gear was top-notch. I spent some time exploring the underwater world before returning to the boat to soak up more sun.
As we sailed back to the marina, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s adventures. The Zatara had provided an unforgettable experience, one that I would gladly relive every day if I could. The crew’s hospitality, the stunning scenery, and the thrill of the open sea had left a lasting impression. Before disembarking, I made sure to tip the hardworking crew, a small token of appreciation for their exceptional service. As I drove back to San Juan, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the ocean and the adventures it continues to offer. Until next time, Caribbean paradise!
