What You Will Do
- Take a guided walk with reindeer through the Boreal Forest in Alaska and expeirence an interactive and informative romp with these magical animals
- Uncover the forest's rich history and learn about reindeer from a knowledgeable, life-long Alaskan
- Finish the tour with world-famous, award-winning, homemade cookies made by the hosts
- Reindeer walk with guide

The hike is not long, but the nature walk has uneven terrain so good season appropriate walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing are required. In the spring and summer the mosquitoes could be bad, bring your repellent of choice. Our reindeer are tame but not trained so sometimes they decide to take a route not planned for. Bring your cameras and expect the unexpected.
We do not provide transportation. If you're going to be in town for several days, we recommend renting a car, otherwise Golden Heart Shuttles & Tours, 907-456-4555; Air Link Shuttle, 907-452-3337; or local taxis. Children under 3 need to be in a carrier.
Hassle-free Cancellation Promise: We know travel plans change and sometimes it's necessary to cancel them. That's why you may cancel your reservation for a full refund if you notify us 48 hours before your scheduled tour. No questions asked.

What a treat! My 8-year old and myself loved our little stop by Running Raindeer Ranch. The staff was amazing. Seeing raindeers in real life was above and beyond what we expected and the overall experience was just wonderful! Definitely a must-do while in Fairbanks.
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. I felt it was a great tour and a wonderful value. We were immediately greeted upon arrival. Everything was clearly explained as to what we could expect on our tour. All of the staff were quite knowledgeable. They were also capable of keeping visitors safe despite the amount of hooves and antlers passing by us constantly during the tour. At one point, there was a short sparring between two reindeer and I was impressed with how the staff quickly and calmly got it under control. I never felt in danger. At the end of the tour, the owners invited us into their home where we could sit and enjoy delicious home made cookies and a hot drink while they explained a few more facts about their ranch. I highly recommend this tour. I don't think you would be disappointed.
Well organised, beautiful surrounds.
We try to do this Reindeer Walk every time we have friends or family visiting us here in the Fairbanks area. This time it was a Christmas present for my in-laws. It is such a great experience to meet these amazing animals, touch them, get to know them and walk with them on an not difficult trail through the beautiful birch forest. But that is not all. It is also amazing to meet Jane and listen to her talking about the animals she loves so much. It feels like visiting a friend saying to you: "Hey come, want to meet my reindeer?" She is super knowledgeable and has the great talent to talk about her animals in a fascinating and entertaining way. After meeting the reindeer by her house you will get an introduction and all the basic information. If you come in winter Jane also makes sure you are dressed warm enough. Then the walk starts with more facts about the animals and many stops and photo opportunities. Back at the reindeer house ("Reindeer Haus") there is time for some hot chocolate, reindeer cookies (no, no reindeer got harmed for them) and more information. This is also the time you can touch antlers and antler velvet. The tour will leave you with he urge to get your own two or more reindeer....or to return whenever possible.
It was not only a great, unique experience to walk with the reindeer, but was also very informative and educational. Jane was a very talented educator and storyteller.

Loved the experience AND all the information!
We had an awesome time. Jane was very nice and knew everything about reindeer and was very interesting in her talks on our reindeer walk. It was well worth the visit! Will visit again!
It was great.
The tour was very informative but also so warm and personable. Your properties are gorgeous and there is clearly a lot of love for your reindeer. Thank you! :)
Very informative and fun! Nice cookies and lemonade, Thank you for telling the story about the reindeer industry of the 30s.
Loved interacting with and leaning about the deer!
We wanted to see reindeer and this certainly delivered. Not only did we get to walk amongst them like puppies but Jane was so knowledgeable and obviously cared for the reindeer. Definitely worthwhile!
Educational, enjoyed the family story.
Leaned the difference between caribou and reindeer. Enjoyed the education given before and after and the walk with the reindeer. Pleasant day all around. Thank you!
Absolutely wonderful experience! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Thank you!
The walk was friendly, accommodating, and super informative. The woods were beautiful and the reindeer were nice walking companions. Enjoyed having the treats and more information at the end. So much fun!
This was a fun, unique experience we discovered last minute. It was a great way to fill our day. Where else can you mix & mingle w/ reindeer?? Jane is a kind, friendly, knowledgeable host. Happy we had the experience. Thanks, Jane. You're fantastic!
The best experience ever! It was the hightlight of our trip!
very fun experience, cute reindeer, taking lots of postcard pictures~
This was truly an experience not just a touristy attraction. Mrs. Jane was very knowledgeable and it was clear the reindeer were her “babies” not just money-makers. It was an amazing walk with the reindeer at our side, mingling with their guess. It is definitely a must do when in the area. I will be back!
Was a really nice day, the reindeer were so content walking amongst us. Definitely recommend this.
I really enjoyed my interactions and both our guides Yan me the owner. They were kind and super patient and explained in great detail all our questions. The interaction with the reindeers is unique and one of a kind you won’t get this close to these mystical animals. They are beautiful and sweet, do not be intimidated of their sizes or the antlers. Sweet as sugar that margarita. Only one thing that was difficult and it was in no control of the owner but they were renovating their kitchen so there wasn’t anywhere for our 3 hour walk. We stood most of the time and walked for about 30 minutes. I had back surgery so this would have been good to know before ha d. I was under the impression that we would be inside for the lessons and talks about reindeer than walk for 30 minutes and then go back inside. I totally understand it wasn’t in their control and that it wouldn’t have been safe for us because of the remodeling. But the experience was one of a kind and I can’t wait to come back.
The guide was able to share his knowledge of the reindeers. You could see he knew each personality and how to handle each accordingly. The walk with the reindeer along the trail and through the snowy forest was magical. I loved feeding the reindeer at the end.
We loved learning about the reindeer and being so close to them; this is a very unique outing! What was not so great: We waited 45 minutes for late-arriving participants which was frustrating, being so cold. The depiction we had from your tour description was that we would have time together up front to discuss the reindeer and then walk thru the woods with them, then feed them. However, the walk itself was more of an interpretive walk, stopping every 100 feet or so to learn more about the reindeer. One of the benches came in handy for my spouse who can't stand for such long periods. The entire tour was less than 2 hours including that long delay in the beginning. We wish we could have experienced the tour with you leading, but do hope you had a good time in Mexico!
We live in Fairbanks and always bring our guests to Running Reindeer Ranch! It is always an amazing experience for all, and we leave learning new things every time! Jane is so knowledgeable and it so much fun to take a walk through her beautiful birch forest with her reindeer. They are clearly part of the family and are so loved. It is an experience unlike anything else and should definitely be on your top priority list of things to do in Alaska!
Everything was perfect!! You could tell Jane has a passion for her reindeer babies!
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Alaska. We were expecting just a walk in the woods with the reindeer, but the hot drinks and cookies afterward and the informative talk that Jane gave us was really something special. I feel like we learned so much about reindeer! Jane was so fun and insightful. What a treat for us to have her open her home to us and the other guests! I would highly recommend this activity to anyone who wants an up close and personal experience with reindeer! What a great way for us to end our Alaska vacation! -Sharon and Graham Futerfas
Not only was it amazing to be next to these beautiful animals, but Jane also gave us quite an educational experience as well!
It is 3 days later and we are still in awe of how amazing this experience was. Having the opportunity to be up close with the Reindeer and pet them and hug them. This was a memory that I will cherish for years to come. Can't wait to come back again!
Definitely my best Alaska experience!
Felt the day was drawn out - the one hour into was too long.
we were in Alaska 2 and a half weeks, and this was truly one of the highlights of our trip. Jane and Doug do a fantastic job - this was so much fun and educational too! Thank you for opening your home1

I just love Jane, her enthusiasm for educating and sharing everything she knows about the reindeer with us, and her love for each of her reindeer. They are each special, and so is she! (Terri)
The tour itself was nice. However, after I booked the tour online, my credit card information was compromised. The payment site should have encrypted. Now, I have to dispute thousands dollars of unrecognized charges to my account.
very interesting enjoyed tour
It was just a wonderful experience with education and we loved it! I just expected that we had a little more time with Reindeer.
The children in our group were given special attention. The entire experience was very informative and great fun. The enthusiasm of the hostess and her husband for the animals was uplifting. A highlight of our Alaska experience.
Wow! What an adventure!! Jane made the whole group feel like family. We enjoyed the whole tour including the cookies. I would highly recommend the tour.
I'd give this 4.5 stars. Jane and staff were excellent and provided great information about reindeer. The walking experience was pleasant and the forest beautiful. The animals were lively. The cookies at the end were delicious. There were some minor inconveniences that made my experience less than 100% great - It rained pretty hard the entire visit. I don't fault the staff for that - it would just have been a little more enjoyable if we'd had clearer weather. The other issue was that there was another family on the tour that had two small children who were very distracting and the parents didn't seem too concerned that their children were negatively impacting the experience for other guests. The tour lasted 2.5 hours, which was a little long. I think 2 hours max is the sweet spot for an experience like this one. Overall, we all enjoyed the program and learned a lot about the very unique reindeer.
Outstanding interaction with the Reindeer. Jane tells her story with emotion and is extremely informative. We highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in animals! Truly a great experience!
Jane was knowledgeable and delightful. It was awe inspiring to be amongst the reindeer and the darling calf reindeer.
Well worth it...really enjoyed it. Would've loved more time for pics with the reindeers but overall it was a great experience.
