A Journey Through Time and Nature

As a wildlife photographer with a deep love for Africa, I am always on the lookout for experiences that blend history, culture, and the natural world. The Debre Libanos Monastery Tour promised just that—a chance to explore a 13th-century religious site and embark on a nature hike through breathtaking landscapes. My journey began with a drive from Addis Ababa, traversing the Entoto Mountains and the Sululta plains. The roads were rugged, but the anticipation of what lay ahead kept my spirits high.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the warm Ethiopian hospitality that I have come to cherish. Our guide, a passionate patriot with an impressive knowledge of Ethiopia’s history, led us to the Ethiopia-German Park for a traditional Ethiopian meal. On our way back, we were fortunate to encounter a family of Gelada baboons foraging by the roadside. These endemic creatures, with their striking manes and expressive faces, are a testament to the rich biodiversity of the region. It was a fitting end to a day that celebrated both the cultural and natural heritage of Ethiopia.

Though the journey involved several hours of driving, the experience was well worth the effort. The combination of stunning scenery, engaging wildlife, and the profound sense of history made this tour an unforgettable adventure.
