Exploring Cambodia: My Private Car Journey from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville

Eager to explore Cambodia’s scenic routes, I booked a private car transfer from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville. Join me as I share the highs and minor hiccups of this comfortable journey.

Setting Off from Phnom Penh

As a digital nomad, I often find myself in need of reliable transportation between cities, especially when exploring the beautiful landscapes of Southeast Asia. On my recent journey from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville, I opted for a private car transfer, a decision that promised both comfort and convenience. The day began with a friendly driver picking me up from my hotel at 7:30 am. The vehicle was clean and spacious, perfect for a long drive.

The journey was set to take around 4 to 5 hours, covering a distance of 222 km. As we left the bustling streets of Phnom Penh behind, I settled into the comfortable seat, ready to enjoy the scenic drive through the provinces of Kampong Speu and Koh Kong. The driver was professional and courteous, ensuring a smooth ride without any unnecessary haste.

The Journey Through Cambodia

One of the highlights of this transfer was the ability to customize the journey. We made several stops along the way, allowing me to stretch my legs, grab a quick snack, and capture some stunning photographs of the Cambodian countryside. The lush greenery and distant mountains provided a picturesque backdrop, making the drive an experience in itself.

The driver and I engaged in interesting conversations about Cambodian culture and history, adding depth to the journey. His insights and stories made the trip more than just a transfer; it was an opportunity to learn and connect with the local way of life. Despite the long drive, I felt safe and relaxed, thanks to the driver’s experienced handling of the vehicle.

A Minor Hiccup

While the journey was mostly seamless, there was a small hiccup regarding the toll fees. The booking had mentioned that all toll fees were included, but upon exiting the highway, I was informed that a $12 toll fee was not covered. It was a minor inconvenience, but it did catch me off guard. The driver explained that he had been informed differently, and we resolved the issue amicably.

Despite this minor setback, the overall experience was positive. Arriving in Sihanoukville in the afternoon, I was dropped off at my hotel, ready to explore the coastal city. The private car transfer was a cost-effective and comfortable way to travel, eliminating the stress of arranging transport and allowing me to focus on the adventure ahead.

For fellow budget travelers, I recommend considering this option for a hassle-free journey between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. It’s a great way to see the countryside and enjoy a personalized travel experience. Private Car Transfer
