- Stachus - Meet at 8:45 a.m. at Sonnenstrasse 1, 80331 Munich. Look for the tour bus labeled “Mentor Reisen,” where the friendly driver and guide will greet you upon check-in. Departure is at 9:00 a.m., passing several Munich landmarks, which the guide will describe, en route to Linderhof Palace and the Venus Grotto. Starting May 1st, departure is at 8:30 a.m., with meeting time at 8:15 a.m.
- Venusgrotte - Arrive at Linderhof Palace parking lot around 10 a.m. After the guide collects the tickets from the ticket center, walk together to the Venus Grotto. The path is slightly uphill and takes about 20 minutes. The guided tour of the man-made grotto with a lake lasts about 15 minutes and is conducted live in English. Be captivated by the vibrant colors and interior design. After a decade of authentic restoration, the grotto reopened to visitors in 2025.
Note: Available only in summer from May 1st to October 15th.
- Schloss Linderhof - Around 11 a.m., leave the grotto and proceed to Linderhof Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2025. Explore the palace gardens independently before heading to the palace entrance. This smallest, fully furnished palace was constructed in the 19th century in the French Rococo and Baroque styles, influenced by the Palace of Versailles in both architecture and gardens. The guided tour, conducted live in English, starts at 11:40 a.m. and lasts about 30 minutes. The tour bus departs at 12:30 p.m.
- Oberammergau - Between Linderhof Palace and Hohenschwangau village, below Neuschwanstein Castle, lies the artists’ village of Oberammergau. Renowned for its facade painting (Lüftl-Malerei) and woodcarving, the village is also famous for the Passion Plays held every 10 years, depicting the last week of Jesus’ life from Palm Sunday to Easter. A coach tour of the town allows you to see much more than a brief stop would.
- Queen Mary’s Bridge (Marienbrucke) - After a 50-minute drive, arrive in Hohenschwangau village. Once the guide collects the castle tickets from the ticket office, enjoy some free time. A visit to Marienbridge is highly recommended. Built in 1845, it still features original railing elements. The view of Neuschwanstein Castle from there is truly unique, and it’s a perfect spot for a photo!
- Schloss Neuschwanstein - Reach Neuschwanstein Castle on foot (a 30-40 minute uphill walk), by shuttle bus, or by horse-drawn carriage for a fee. Your guide will provide detailed information. The guided tour of Neuschwanstein Castle starts shortly after 4:00 PM and lasts approximately 25 minutes with an audio guide. After the tour, please return directly to the tour bus. The return trip to Munich departs at 5:30 PM.

If you stand at Karlsplatz (Stachus) with your back to the fountains, you will see the toy shop "Obletter" on your left. If you continue straight ahead along Sonnenstraße, you will see the "Fielmann" eyewear store. There you will meet the guide and the coach with the inscription "Mentor Reisen".

Best day trip while in Munich! - I highly recommend this day tour to see the Linderhof and Neuschwanstein castles! Elof (apologies if the spelling is incorrect) was a fantastic tour guide sharing his vast history knowledge as we travelled across the country side of Bavaria. He and the bus driver were very accomodating to the passengers needs. We were lucky enough as it was winter to get some snow along the way…. The whole day was just beautiful and breathtaking!

Good experiencie - We visited Neuschwanstein Castle, and the experience exceeded our expectations thanks to our guide, Olaf. He demonstrated an impressive command of the historical details, keeping the tour fluid, engaging, and perfectly organized at all times. His professionalism and passion for his work are evident. A true masterclass on how to do a tour guide for these beautiful German castles. - My friend Mariana and I had an incredible experience with Olaf as our tour guide. He was very kind, respectful, and knowledgeable. His voice was very soothing and professional, he gave us a history of both castles and made it feel like a very calm and lovely podcast. He made sure we were on time for everything and handled us like we were family. Because of him we would definitely book the tour all over again. Also, our bus driver was the best! Very friendly and the hospitality given to us made us feel so safe and in harmony.

Lovely experience and great for solo traveler in the off season - Everything about this trip was convenient. The ride there was very comfortable and I loved the history along the way. There are moments to independently walk to the castle or spend time before the tour, so please be aware of that if you prefer to be guided every step of the way. Also be aware that Sundays, many stores are closed, so you won't get moments to stop for shopping. Our wonderful guide, Elof, offered various options to fill the time, including joining him for walks around other castles and to lunch. He was very pleasant and patient and wonderful conversation! The castles are magical and beautiful. The tours are relatively short, since not all areas are toured, but still wonderful. I wish I could sit in the rooms and stare at every detail of art for hours. I was traveling solo and connected with most of the others. I feel like the trip, since in the off season, was a small group and offered a great way to connect with everyone. It felt close and casual. I had a great time. Oh the tour guide might undersell walking up to Scloss Neuschwanstein because he is fit and used to it. It is moderately steep and long. It is a tough walk up. If you're unsure, just take a carriage up. I'm not in great shape, so I was huffing and puffing, but I managed and still happy I walked, even with how hard it was. So glad I did this trip!

Very comfy shuttle bus... - Very comfy shuttle bus with lots of snacks and even yummy local beers. Elof was a great kind guide. In winter Marys bridge is closed but that’s no one fault but the ice/weather. Still worth seeing the castles even in winter.

Complete your wish👍 - Car: A large seat, three seats in a row, the driver is steady driving, there are ice drinks and cookies in the car, hot coffee and hot tea in the back
Guide: will always introduce various historical stories, need to engage in English, but the guide is relatively slow, people are friendly
New Sky Gong Fortress: There is a restaurant in the hillside, but it is recommended to get off the P4 lake and take photos on the lake, go directly to the mountain, and you can take beautiful photos along the way, halfway and soon to the castle there are hot dog stalls and gift shops, don't worry about starving
There is a large terrace near the entrance to the castle and you can take pictures to the castle door.

We booked the VIP but... - We booked the VIP but because of a big cancellation they moved us to a big bus. It was a good tour but we felt very rushed at the Neuschwanstein castle. Our guide and driver were great though.

Two fantastic castles in one day guided tour - Two castles in the tour and went to Linderhof first and waited over an hour for our 25 minute tour then drove to Neuschwanstein and had nearly a three hour wait prior to our tour. We had lunch in the village before the tour and still had a two hour wait. Personally I would have reversed the order of the tour to get to Neuschwanstein first as that is the highest priority. I would have expected that our actual castle tours would have been coordinated better from a timing standpoint. The guide “Pedro” was terrific which was really enjoyable. It appeared that there was no coordinated tour timing. Still a wonderful bus tour and both castles are spectacular, just be aware that both actual tours are only ~ 25 minutes each (guided at Linderhof and only with an audio headset at Neuschwanstein).

Very Disappointed…. Take... - Very Disappointed…. Take care booking the VIP tour, 2 days prior I was contacted by the company saying VIP was unavailable and put onto the regular coach. Some refund was provided but we still paid more than others on the tour for a front seat and drinks / snacks. The castle group tours were overcrowded and difficult to see the features in the room as people were jammed in and could not see around them. Also be aware most outside statues were boarded over to protect during the winter snow period. Bus tour guide provided good information but I would spend my money on another tour if given the opportunity.
