Gondar to Sankabar
Simien Mountains National Park - Travel from Gondar to Debark. Obtain a permit from the Park headquarters and pick up the required scout before proceeding to Sankabar (3250m ASL) for the first overnight camp. An early departure is necessary as the journey from Gondar takes 2-3 hours. The trek starts at Buytras (Simien Lodge), and it typically takes about 3-4 hours to walk to the Sankabar campsite. During the walk, there is a good chance of encountering Gelada baboons.
Sankabar to Geech
Simien Mountains National Park - On the morning of day 2, the trek continues to Geech via the stunning Jinbar waterfall. The trek will take approximately 5-7 hours. After descending to the Jinbar Wenz (which feeds the waterfall), a short ascent leads to Geech village. Just beyond Geech village is the campsite, offering great views of the mountains and featuring giant lobelia plants. The nearby Kedadit summit is one of the best spots to watch the sunset. The campsite is located at 3600m ASL.
Geech to Ambaras to Gondar
Simien Mountains National Park - The trek proceeds from Geech to the Imet Gogo promontory, offering one of the most breathtaking views in the entire mountain range. This day is excellent for spotting the magnificent Lammergeier vultures. From Imet Gogo, the trek returns to the road near a village called Ambaras, where the car awaits for the drive back to Gondar. The trek will last approximately 4-5 hours. Alternatively, the journey can end in Axum as well.
