Fantastic views - Good communication from the provider.
It was relatively easy to get to and find the offices and we were escorted to our bus (which was late due to traffic).
Vesuvius is 100% worth visiting and the bus took us to the highest drop off point for the climb. I took it very steadily and took lots of photos and there was plenty of time (we were given 2 hours).
As everyone will tell you, no toilet facilities on the route to the top - but there are 3 gift shops!
It does get booked up in advance so you need to check the weather forecast and then get online quickly when a sunny day is forecast.

Great tour - This was great experience.
I went with my 2 kids aged 15 and 11, they loved it too.
Very well organised, comfy coach for transfer.

not enough time to enjoy the hike - I read that we would have 3 hours at the mountain - then told 2 which would give us plenty of time to hike up and back - husband has mobility issues. According to the tour company we were to leave at 10:30 and arrive back at 2:30 with about an hour travel time both ways. We left at 10:30 and were back in Naples at 1:45. We ended up having less than two hours on the mountain. We were able to hike to the top, take a quick picture and head back down. Others without mobility issues had the same issue

Nice but too expensive for such an experience - The customer service was perfect, everyone was so sweet and kind, helped us with everything. But I think everyone who wants to go there should know that there’s only a transfer to mountain, tickets (that without a guide cost 11 euro per person) and a 5-7 audio recordings with a few info about the volcano. If you’ll get there by car and read volcano’s history from Wikipedia the experience will be the same.

A great way to the top of Vesuvius but no WCs! - Great way to travel up Mount Vesuvius. Great views of the crater and city of Naples and coastline. The audio requires you to have an online cell phone instead of some other type of audio device. It would have cost me $12 to go online so I opted out. Not sure it would have added any real value. Two important things to be aware of. You must be relatively mobile as it’s a continuous uphill walk for about 1.3 miles that leaves most folks winded. Going down is also a bit of a challenge as it involves loose gravel and rock that could cause the inattentive a fall. Now for the most important warning. THE ARE NO PUBLIC BATHROOMS OF ANY SORT unless you include going behind the dumpster. They have several small tourist huts at the bottom, midway, and top that sell beer, wine, and coffee, but do so at your own peril given my highlighted warning!

They take you, leave you and bring you. - You really have 2 hours to get up to Vesuvius and down. Approximately 30 minutes of climb and others of descent, without making much stop along the way. Attention to the time, which goes by without realizing it.
The transfer back and forth was fine.
They met exactly the schedule, thanks to the passengers who were all on schedule (both on and off).
It's a minibus, it does its job.
The driver, obviously drives as is the traffic in Naples.!
The audio guide is a little fair, it is not necessary to climb.

Mt Vesuvius looks more harmless than it was . - Tour operator was friendly and lead us directly to the bus which was parked 5-10mins walk from train station.
Easy hike up. Was expecting to see a much bigger area but much smaller than expected.
Very windy so be prepared when you go up.
The audio downloads on phone is subject to reception as well. The moment I stuffed my phone into pocket, I don’t hear it . So because it is so windy and cold, I could not keep holding my phone out of pocket. However, was a good experience.

Interesting but basic tour - Vesuvius crater experience is terrific and I am glad we went. The hike was much easier than I expected. The bus gets you very close to the top with only ~200 mm elevation climb left. The path is sandy and mostly even. Good shoes help. The day was cloudy so the view was not great but the crater itself is imposing. The tour was bare bones. Transport by a bus from Naples was provided plus a very brief and not super informative audioguide on your own phone. No tour guide talk at all. They give you time to climb and descend and that is all.

Terrible customer service - My experience with this company turned out to be terrible. On the day I planned to do the tour, it turned out that the weather was not good enough or safe for travelers to climb Vesuvius. So I was unable to have the experience. That is no one's fault, and I certainly would not want to be given the green light to go on an excursion that was not safe. My complaint is about the handling of the refund. I was ultimately issued a partial refund (minus the fare from the train ride to Rome), even though I only made the journey from Rome to Naples for the purposes of this excursion. There are a couple of problems here a) the listing on Viator says that in the event of weather related cancellation a *full* refund would be issued, b) the fact that I would only be getting some of my money back was also not explained to me when I was at the agency. When I contacted the company in writing and by phone, the person that I spoke to took absolutely no responsibility for the fact that the communications on the part of the company was less than optimal. She became quite condescending, cutting me off in conversation, and generally rude--even after I asked her more than once to give me the courtesy of hearing me out as I had done for her. The weather is not their fault, but neither is it mine--and it *is* the company's responsibility to communicate clearly the terms and conditions to customers ahead of booking so that customers can make fully informed choices. I did not appreciate having to pay for the inconvenience of traveling to Naples early in the morning when that was not explained upfront that I might end up having to pay money for an excursion that it was not possible to take. My hands were tied: I had passed the cancellation window so if I did not show up or pulled out I would have lost all my money. I did show up, got no excursion (again, no one's fault), but also had to pay for being inconvenienced. And the company's representative could not even acknowledge that the situation was unsatisfactory--even if not quite anyone's fault. Good customer care requires something more in situations like this. What a disappointment.
Buyer beware: if there is a weather-related cancellation and travel to Naples was a part of your package, you will not get all of your money back in spite of any claims that this is the case that might be in the listing.
