Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - After breakfast, your driver guide will take you to Kisoro, Uganda, located at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes. Enjoy the scenic winding roads and breathtaking views of the volcanoes. Cross the Equator to the western part of Uganda, where you can admire the picturesque long-horned cattle.

Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - This park was primarily established to protect mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, among other wildlife. Your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge and take you to the park’s briefing point to learn about proper behavior and interaction with the gorillas in their natural habitat.

Depending on the gorillas’ location, you may need to drive before beginning your trek. The ranger guide will lead you on your gorilla trek in the park. After hiking a certain distance, you will encounter the gorillas and spend up to one hour with them before descending back to the lodge. This unforgettable experience in the jungle with these magnificent creatures will remain with you forever.

Golden Monkey Trekking

Mount Sabinyo - After an early breakfast, your driver guide will take you to the briefing point where the golden monkey trekking begins. Similar to the previous day, you will receive a briefing from the ranger guide before starting your hike in Mgahinga National Park in search of the golden monkeys, which are unique to the Virunga Volcanoes.

Golden monkeys are generally swift in their movements, unlike gorillas, and you will follow them as they move to feed. They prefer bamboo shoots over other vegetation. The initial part of the hike is through secondary forest and shrubs, but as you venture deeper into the forest, you will enter the bamboo sections where you will hear sounds and see movements of these fascinating creatures. You are allowed one hour with the golden monkeys before descending back to the starting point.

Walk in the Footsteps of the Batwa

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - The Batwa are an indigenous tribe that once lived in the forest, relying on it for their livelihood as hunter-gatherers. However, over time, other groups influenced the Batwa, leading to unsustainable poaching, prompting the government to relocate them from the forest.

This morning, your driver guide will take you to the briefing area. After a briefing from the Batwa guide leader, with translation from the ranger guide, you will embark on a journey in their footsteps. They will guide you through the forest, sharing how they lived and depended on it.

Hike Sabyinyo, Muhabura, or Gahinga Volcanoes

Mount Muhavura - Early in the morning, after breakfast, prepare for a mountain hike. Mt. Muhabura, standing at 4,127 meters (13,540 feet) above sea level, is the most challenging peak in the park. The hike will take most of the day, but adventurers are rewarded with a great sense of accomplishment and, on a clear day, spectacular views of Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo. This peak is shared between Uganda and Rwanda and takes approximately 8 hours to hike.
