- Anundshög - The largest burial mound in Sweden. Experience Anundshög at night. It’s truly unique to read a runestone by flashlight and explore one of Sweden’s largest gravefields. Anundshög is the biggest burial mound in Scandinavia, serving as a Viking and pre-Viking Thing mound. Surrounding the area are standing stones arranged in rings and ship formations, along with additional mounds. During the Viking Age, the waterway made it accessible by boat, and it was part of Sweden’s medieval Royal Eriksgata, where newly chosen kings traveled to be elected in the various regions of Sweden’s fragmented power structure. This runestone tells the story of the carver Vred, who carved it in memory of Anund’s brother Heden, who passed away, and all these stones are raised in his honor. It is placed along a causeway lined with standing stones. A must-visit and tour highlight.

Varpsund - Ingvar Rune Stone and Vendel-Era Large Mound
The Ingvar stones are well-known in Swedish Viking Age history and runology, as they recount a significant campaign to the east to open the Russian trade rivers. Although unsuccessful, it is preserved as a tale recorded at the Svea King’s court in the 13th century by an Icelandic visitor. The Vendel-era great mound we pass is impressive, indicating a prosperous central area that existed a few hundred years before the Viking Age. We also pass the Håtuna royal estate, the site of the bloody Håtuna game during the Middle Ages. - Sigtuna - The final stop is Sigtuna, Sweden’s oldest and perhaps most fascinating city. Stroll along the Viking and early medieval street network and imagine the Viking city emerging around you. Learn about trade expeditions, kings, and coin minting. Witness the grandeur of the church ruins towering above and much more.
