A fascinating and complete tour of Elmina - Michael Kunke is a very accommodating and knowledgeable tour guide. He knows a lot about the Castle, but he also took is beyond it and gave us great insight into the history of the broader town of Elmina, its people and culture.

For anyone wanting to go beyond surface tourism and understand the heart of Ghana’s past and present - I recently joined a tour with Brand Elmina Heritage & Cultural Experiences in Ghana, led by our guide Michael. We were there on a research trip and I can honestly say it exceeded all expectations. From the very start, Michael was warm and engaging — not just a guide, but a storyteller. He wove together historical facts and cultural insights in a way that felt both informative and deeply human. Whether we were exploring historical sites, learning about local traditions, or hearing about the struggles and triumphs of the community, he always had something meaningful to share. Michael didn’t gloss over the difficult parts of history. He was honest about both the beautiful and painful parts, which made the learning feel real and respectful. From food to music, language, and art, it wasn’t just talk. We experienced the culture first-hand. Michael clearly cares deeply about preserving and sharing Ghanaian heritage. You get the sense that guiding isn’t just a job for him, but a calling. If you’re considering a cultural or heritage tour in or around Accra, this one is highly recommended- for anyone wanting to go beyond surface tourism and really understand the heart of Ghana’s past and present. Thank you Michael!

A Powerful and Unforgettable Elmina Experience with Michael - Our tour with Michael Kunke was truly unforgettable. He guided us through Elmina with incredible depth and sensitivity, sharing layers of history that you simply won’t find in books. Michael’s perspective as a local Ghanaian made the experience deeply personal, helping us connect with the realities of Elmina’s past in a very human way. His warm and approachable nature made it easy to ask questions, and his thoughtful answers left us with a much richer understanding of this important place. This tour was not just informative, it was moving, powerful, and something we will carry with us for a long time.

A magical tour of Elmina - The tour with Michael gave so much depth to our Elmina visit. Besides the castle tour, which was impactful, he took us on a walk to the harbour as well as some of the important but little known cultural, historical and spiritual sites in town. It was magical, especially as the sun was setting and we saw the town come to life for its evening hustle. It is clear that Elmina has much to offer. Michael is knowledgeable, flexible, humorous and kind. The dinner that was part of the tour was the best we had in Ghana thus far! We highly recommend this tour.
