Jon was absolutely amazing for a tour guide. We can't wait to go back with him! He went above and beyond and took us to some really cool parts of the cave.
The professionalism and attentention given to my wife and myself was amazing. Jon was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the cave and surrounding area. We had a blast and learned in the process. We felt safe the entire time while doing things that was somewhat out of our comfort zone. This adventure is not something that many people get to experience in this manner. We couldn't have been more satisfied with our trip. Thank you!
My husband is experienced in caving where I had never been in anything other than a touristy cavern that you could walk out of as clean as you entered. We both had a wonderful time and enjoyed ourself throughout the entire trip. We were both challenged and were worn out when we finished but it was well worth the once in a life time experience. I would encourage anyone interested to book with this company as Jon and Jubil were so knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. The only thing I would have done differently is to wear a long sleeve or 3/4 length shirt because my elbows got a bit banged up from crawling as my tshirt didn't offer any protection, but I was nice a warm by the end from all of he activity. All our clothes we easily cleaned by spraying them off with a hose first then washing like normal.
We were a family of 12, ages ranging from 72-14. This experience was priceless. We were excited, exhilarated, and exhausted but are still talking about it. Great new experience for everyone!
Please see my previous post! This place is top notch!
This caving adventure expands one's senses to a different world that lies below the ground. It's a unique, muddy, physical adventure that 2 adults, a nine year old and a 14 year old had lots of fun sharing together. It was a confidence builder for the kids - they loved it.
The guides were very helpful and explained everything in detail.

It was lots of fun and the experience gave you the impression you were the very first person ever to see it. Brandon was an awesome guide, very professional and made safety concern number one with fun being a close second. Plus, you will learn a lot about how the caves were formed and what is was like in the far past. You'll get muddy and wet, but that is a big part of the charm, as when you exit the cave, you truly feel like you've explored sights never before seen. It's not so long that you feel trapped underground, yet long enough to feel like you had the total experience. The cave complex is keep pristine and clean of trash. Our guide was always looking to keep it that way. I respected that aspect of the tour. If you want to feel like a true spelunker for a few hours and not just a tourist on a walk through well-lit and dramatized tunnels, this is the one for you. If you made reservations and need to add more people at the last minute, I found them to be very accommodating. I could not recommend this trip enough. Mark from Germany
Guides were high energy and extremely informative. They were highly attentive to our safety and making this a fun trip. They provided an excellent balance of challenging the kids but without pressuring them. I have been recommending this tour to all our friends!
It was awesome... great adventure walking in an underground river and mud, slidding, crawling, we loved it! Mel and John are very friendly, we had fun with them and may even go back there sometimes!
Absolutely loved our leader and guides. We conquered a lot of fears, and goals with completing the trail. We loved every minute and learned so much history while in the cave. Very pleased with the safety measures our leads took and tips for traveling through the caves. Definitely worth every penny, it was a once in a lifetime experience. We shared lots of laughs and experienced so much. Will remember to bring hiking boots next time instead of tennis shoes. Very grateful to Appalachian Underground.
My friend and I had a great time. Brandon was an excellent guide. I will definitely do this again with other friends. I might not be able to talk my husband into it. He took one look at my Gopro footage and said no way. But I had an awesome good time. It was quite a workout. A bit sore the day after. Well worth the pain.
This was BY FAR my family's favorite part of our vacation! We went on the three mile caving experience and it was truly amazing! The cave had a multitude of different formations and staff was great in their ability to tell you about the different environmental and historical events that made the cave what it was today. While the hiking andc caving itself was awesome, it was the staff that made this trip over the top! I highly recommend using this local company full of people that are truly passionate about sharing this wonderful piece of nature with their customers!
An adventure like no other that we have ever experienced! Our guide, John, was wonderful! He is passionate about Worley's cave, very knowledgeable about the rock formations, history of the cave, geology and hydrology components. John shared so much during the hour slide, crawl and climb throughout the 3.5 hour hike. I am a 55+ female in average to above-average physical condition. While my technique traversing limestone formations, sliding down mud banks and slithering through rock holes may not have warranted a "10", I was able to do it and feel a good amount of pride in completing this adventure!
This was one of the best nature tours I have ever been on! We had a blast exploring the cave with our awesome guides, who were fun, smart and did an excellent job. : ) This was a great one of a kind experience I am so glad I took the chance to go on! I felt safe the whole time thanks to our experience and knowledgable guides, and we even did all the optional tight space routes and got super muddy! Bring extra clothes ;) . I'd recommend this to anyone who loves hiking and as sense of adventure looking to experience a different view of the mountains with a great group of folks.
My husband + I had a blast with Brandon our guide. He did an awesome job + we really enjoyed our time in the cave. It was a once in a lifetime experience
The guides were kind and professional, the gear was in good condition, the guide emphasized safety, we were provided with sufficient food and water, the route taken was interesting and fun, and the guide was knowledgeable on cave formations and ecology. I had caved before while at school at ASU and wanted to bring my kids and husband to share in the love and adventure I have for caving. I was more than satisfied with the experience and thank Appalachian Underground for such a great memory.
Awesome experience, awesome experience, educational and fun! Our guide was a character and had us laughing a lot. We were fully equipped with knee pads, helmet with headlamp, and a pack with water and a snack upon arriving. We got to walk through an underground river, see beautiful sparkling caves ceilings that resembled a starry sky. I wore a long sleeve T-shirt, sweatpants, and old tennis shoes with good grips. The temperature of the cave was pleasant, but would be a little chilly if not dressed appropriately.
Our guide was knowledgeable and personable. The cave was awesome. We will definitely go again. Best outing in a long time.
We had so much fun, the guides where very helpful and knowledgeable! I would recommend them to anyone, and we will look them up when we bring our sons back!
My Family recently went caving with Appalachian Underground and it exceeded our high expectations. The reviews we read were great, so we were hoping for a memorable experience, but what we got was the trip of a lifetime. My wife and I are fit and active, but she is a bit claustrophobic and I am just getting over a back injury, so we were a little concerned. That and we had four teenage girls with us... but we let them choose a mountain activity and they unanimously voted for caving. It was awesome! We felt safe... and... we were all sore the next day from the challenge. Caves a truly another world and we spent at least 3 1/2 hours and 3 1/2 miles underground with nothing but our headlamps and our amazing guides. We saw breathtaking formations, climbed, crawled and slopped our way into lasting memories and a sense of accomplishment. I am glad we went to goodwill and outfitted ourselves with some throwaway clothes and shoes... but I kept mine and the cleaned up just fine! Thank you Appalachian Underground.
This was our first experience caving and we had the best time ever! The guides were very knowledgable of the area and gave us a memorable time. We would love to do it again.
Brandon and Joe were excellent guides and always had our safety in mind. It was nice that you could choose to make the experience more challenging by going through the small tight spaces, or you could opt out of those and stay more in the open areas. The tour was definitely exciting and an experience I'm glad I had the chance to do. Just remember that this is "caving" and not just touring a cave so be prepared to get dirty, climb, slide, and get wet. So much fun!
We have a great time and highly knowledgeable guides
Great experience. Was more intense than expected and the guides were great in helping us though the cave.
We had a great time! I would recommend Appalachian Underground to anyone looking to have a unique adventure! The guides were very knowledgeable and really have a passion for what they do. Can't wait to go again. Thanks for the pictures
It was good trip. The Guide very nice. they prepare snack ,water, everything you need
Our guide with Appalachian Underground was a true professional and really showed us a wonderful time in the cave. The rich history and beauty of the cave touched my heart in ways that are hard to express. Knowing that I was in the care of a competent cave guide gave me the feeling of soaring through the cave clouds on the wings of a golden eagle. The Eagles wings were so soft that I fell asleep and was whisked off into a dream. I dreamed that I was reaching out from the wing of the great eagle. With my arm fully extended from the wing I scooped up a rainbow crystal and held it in the light of my headlamp(which was provided by Appalachian underground). In the crystal I could see the reflection of an older and wiser eagle. Then in a human voice the wise eagle whispered,"thank you for choosing Appalachian underground please come again". It was then that I realized I hadn't chosen the crystal, but the crystal had chosen... me.
Great experience. Can't say it was on my bucket list but after doing it, it should have been. Can't wait till they get my pictures posted on Facebook.
This was an awesome day well spent! We had a lot of fun, got muddy and wet, explored a cave, and saw a wee tiny adorable bat. I say yes, all should go caving!! :)
The trip was absolutely amazing! Just enough to get me out of my comfort zone and make it exciting! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new experience and s good first time in a cave!
Amazingly Gorgeous Caves! Great starting point for anyone that is a little adventurous. Anyone can just easily jump in and have fun. I'd wish that the tours would be a bit more "tailored" to the group, for example, our group was fairly small (4 people) and with some caving experience. I'd wish we had more time to look around, explore nooks and crannies of the cave a bit, it felt a bit rushed so we could follow the guide. That being said it took us a sold 3 hours to go through the whole cave and I would recommend this tour to other people.
This was exactly the sort of caving experience I was hoping for! Not for those who want a well-lighted, guardrail-lined cave or a fancy visitor's center. However, the guides are professionals, stressing safety while developing rapport with and having fun with their patrons. Formations in the cave were impressive for me since I wasn't expecting grand stalactites and stalagmites from floor to ceiling of every room. It's a muddy, fun trip but one needs to be in shape.
Speaking for myself, I was very satisfied. Speaking for my wife, somewhat satisfied. I like that the caving was special only to this company. Other caving companies share their caving tours with 3 or 4 other companies making it more touristy. This caving is for those in good condition; you will need to use arm and leg muscles to climb up and down boulders/rocks; balancing and having a can do attitude will help. Some passages are not made for large people. The owners and guides are very friendly, knowledgeable, attentive to your needs and assistance, even when there are 12 cavers in the group. At 72 and 160 #'s I had no problems and came out feeling 50 again. Like their web site states, "you will get wet and muddy". Enjoy!
The trip was a lot of fun and a great experience. Such a unique adventure!
We had a fantastic time caving, and Brandon and Joe were really fantastic guides. Totally worth a trip, and we would do it again! So highly recommend for everyone to go and get muddy, especially with kids!
Our family had a fabulous time! Our guides were great- even dealing with our son who found out he did not like small spaces:) We loved everything about it- highlight of our trip to the mountains!
Was actually the highlight of our family trip to the Smokey Mtns! Our children ages 21,19, and 14 had a great time. The guides were great with info but not over the top. My only regret was that I did not bring my own point and shoot camera and just place it in a ziplock bag in the fanny packs that they provide. The guide does bring a camera and posts on Facebook but I felt I was always asking him to take a picture for us.
We had a blast. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a little adventure. You will get wet and dirty.
