• El Triunfo - During its peak, El Triunfo was renowned for its gold and silver mines. The first mine was established in the late 18th century by Manuel de Ocio. In 1878, the British El Progreso Mining Company took control, ushering in a period of prosperity for the town. At its height, El Triunfo was the largest town in Baja California Sur, boasting a population exceeding 10,000. However, when the mines ceased operations in 1926, many residents left in search of employment, leaving the town a shadow of its former self. A visit to El Triunfo is incomplete without exploring the historic mining grounds. Access is available via Calle Libertad, leading to the prominent smokestack. Visitors can discover old mining equipment, brick ruins, and smokestacks. The tallest smokestack, “La Romana,” stands at 35 meters and is rumored to have been designed by Gustav Eiffel, famed for the Eiffel Tower.
• Los Barriles - Nestled on the windswept shores of Las Palmas Bay, the fishing village of Los Barriles, Mexico, is a haven for adventure enthusiasts and those seeking to disconnect. About the town of San Antonio:La Paz, Baja California Sur – El Real de San Antonio dates from the 18th century and it is said that it was founded by Gaspar Pisón in 1756.

The re-discovery of gold during the mid nineteenth century brought with it a period of economic growth and development to the remote southern region of Baja California.

Porfirio Díaz granted concessions to the mines to foreign investors – mainly English – and they brought Chinese labor to work alongside Yaqui Indians to work in the prosperous mines of San Antonio, El Triunfo and Santa Ana.
