Taos Pottery and Glazing Class
Fire up your creative side with a two hour workshop in an authentic clay studio. Get involved with all aspects of the ceramic process: glaze pots, fast fire pieces, and use a potters wheel to make a souvenir pot you can take home.
What You Will Do
- Try your hand at glazing—create rich patterns and colors on a pot that has been made by one the many local artisans
- Stick your newly glazed piece in the kiln for a Raku-style firing—this means your piece will be removed while it's still red hot and then cooled in a particular way for a blackening effect and to create appealing lines
- Sit down at the potters wheel to your hand at crafting a fresh ceramic piece
- Gather you friends or family for this class that has plenty of space for up to 12 people
- Guided ceramics class
- Souvenir pot
Classes can be canceled with 24 hours notice. The price of the class will be refunded minus a $50 service fee. Any classes canceled without 24 hours notice will not be refunded.

My wife and I had a tremendous time at our class. Our instructor Maria was very knowledgeable and personable, and made us feel welcome
Awesome Arizona State University degreed instructor...very knowleagle, exceptionally talented. We had lots of fun and were able to take home self-made pottery from Taos, NM. How cool is that? Don't doubt, just go!
We had a great teacher, Maria! We were able to glaze a Raku pot and observe the process of its firing. We also learned to throw pots on a wheel. Many opportunities while we waited for our Raku pot to fire. It was a blast !
Our instructor was very nice and helpful. We would have liked more background information on Raku technique and origins, also on how the kiln works or its process. The class is conducted in the same room with other people working on their own projects. It would be good to have an informal introduction to the others so we could feel more a part of the group as a whole. We felt an awkwardness as though we were intruding. I think an explanation of how the studio works and an agenda of what to expect would also be helpful. Again, our instructor was very nice, and it was a great experience.
