• Citadel of Salah El Din - The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel by our guide, who will take you to the Citadel of Salah El Din. Here, you will visit the Mohamed Ali Mosque, renowned as one of Cairo’s most beautiful mosques. It is also known as the Alabaster Mosque due to its outer walls being covered in alabaster stone.

The Citadel of Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi (Saladin) is a prominent landmark in Islamic Cairo and one of the most remarkable medieval fortresses. Its strategic position on the Muqattam Hills provided a strong defensive advantage and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Cairo.

Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi initiated the construction of the fortress on the Muqattam Hills in 1176 AD (572 AH), but it was completed during the reign of Sultan al-Kamel ibn al-Adel in 1207 AD (604 AH), who made it the official residence of Egypt’s rulers.

• Al-Rifa’i Mosque - Situated on Salah al-Din Square (also known as Maydan al-Qal’a or Citadel Square), Al-Rifa’i Mosque was constructed in the 19th century to complement its 14th-century neighbor, the Mosque of Sultan Hassan. The mosque is named after the tomb of Ali, known as “Abu Sheibak,” the grandson of Imam Ahmad al-Rifa’i. Upon completion, it was dedicated to Ahmad al-Rifa’i, the founder of the Rifa’i Sufi order. Although he was not buried here, the mosque hosts joyful annual Sufi celebrations in his honor.

Hoshiyar Hanim, the mother of Khedive Ismail, commissioned the mosque’s current design and appointed architect Hussein Pasha Fahmi to oversee its construction. The plan included a mausoleum for Muhammad Ali’s family, using imported European materials like Italian marble.

• Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan - The Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan is one of Egypt’s largest and most architecturally stunning mosques. Commissioned by Mamluk Sultan Hasan ibn al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun between 1356 AD (757 AH) and 1362 AD (764 AH), it is located at the end of Muhammad Ali Street, opposite the 19th-century Al-Rifa’i Mosque in Salah al-Din Square.

The mosque features an open courtyard with a central fountain, surrounded by four iwans (rectangular spaces open on one side). Doorways at the courtyard’s corners lead to four madrasas, educational institutions where the four Sunni schools of Islamic jurisprudence were taught. Each madrasa includes a court, iwan, student rooms, and service units. The mosque has two minarets in the Mamluk style.

• Gayer-Anderson Museum (Bayt al-Kiritliya) - Geyer Anderson Pasha, an English officer who studied medicine in London, was assigned as a doctor for the English military in 1904 and stationed in Egypt in 1907.

In 1935, Geyer Anderson requested permission from the Assembly of Preserving Arab Antiquities to reside in two houses and furnish them in an Islamic-Arabic style. He aimed to collect pharaonic, Islamic, and Asiatic antiquities, which would belong to the Egyptian people after his death or permanent departure from Egypt. The assembly agreed, and when Anderson left in 1942, the houses became the Geyer Anderson Museum.

The museum comprises two Ottoman-period houses (16th-17th century). The first house was built by scholar ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Hadad in 1545 AD (947 AH) and later owned by Lady Amina bint Salem.

• Al-Azhar Mosque - Al-Azhar Mosque (Arabic: الجامع الأزهر, romanized: al-Jāmiʿ al-ʾAzhar, lit. ’The Resplendent Congregational Mosque’, Egyptian Arabic: جامع الأزهر, romanized: Gāmiʿ el-ʾazhar) is a mosque in Cairo, Egypt, located in the historic Islamic heart of the city. Established as the new capital of the Fatimid Caliphate in 970, it was the first mosque in a city that earned the nickname “the City of a Thousand Minarets.” Its name is believed to derive from az-Zahrāʾ (lit. ’the shining one’), a title for Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad.

After its dedication in 972, the mosque gradually evolved, with 35 scholars hired by mosque authorities in 989, into its current form.

The affiliated Al-Azhar University is the world’s second oldest continuously operating university after Al-Qarawiyyin in Idrisid Fes. It is highly regarded as a leading institution for Sunni theology and sharia studies.

• Al Emam El Hussein Mosque - The Al-Hussein Mosque, also known as the Mosque of Al-Imam Al-Husayn (Arabic: مسجد الإمام ٱلحُسين) and the Mosque of Sayyidna Al-Husayn, is a mosque and mausoleum of Husayn ibn Ali. Originally built in 1154 and reconstructed in 1874, it is located in Cairo, Egypt, near the Khan El-Khalili bazaar and the renowned Al Azhar Mosque, in an area known as Al-Hussain. It is considered one of Egypt’s holiest Islamic sites. Some Shia Muslims believe that Husayn’s head (ra’s mubarak) is buried on the mosque grounds, where a mausoleum now stands, representing the remaining Fatimid architecture.

At the end of the tour, our guide will return you to your hotel in Cairo.
