Matmata Welcome Sign - Break & Lunch (approximately 9 EUR per person): Enjoy a local lunch break in Matmata, where you can savor delicious food at affordable prices. It’s also a convenient stop for a cigarette and restroom break.
Maison troglodyte - Discover a traditional Berber Troglodyte House (carved inside a rock, cave-like) in Matmata. Enjoy Berber tea, sample local bread, and taste olive oil and honey made by locals. The underground house, once used for hiding from enemies, is still inhabited today. Leave a voluntary tip as a gesture of appreciation for their hospitality.
Hotel Sidi Idriss - Visit the iconic Star Wars filming location in Matmata. Step into the surreal landscape that served as the backdrop for Luke Skywalker’s home. Experience the magic of standing where legendary scenes were filmed and immerse yourself in the cinematic history of the galaxy far, far away. NOTE: The first part of Star Wars was filmed here. A second part was filmed in Ong Jmal (not included in our itinerary as it’s deep in the Sahara). Extra: If you choose to visit Ong Jmal, it requires a Jeep 4x4, with an additional cost of approximately 120 EUR per Jeep (carrying 6 people).
Douz - Visit the main Sahara Desert in Douz, known as the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Witness the breathtaking sunset over the vast dunes, creating a mesmerizing backdrop for unforgettable photos. (Optional) Enjoy thrilling quad tours or a tranquil camel ride through the golden sands, immersing yourself in the timeless beauty of the desert landscape.

Day 2: Salt Lake (Fatamorgana)- Chebika Canyons -Jeep (Optional)- Oasis Waterfall- Underground City- Kairouan Holy City
Chott el Djerid - Begin your second day with an inspiring sunrise at the Salt Lake of Chott el Jerid, Tunisia’s second-largest salt flat. Capture stunning photos and enjoy the serene beauty of this natural wonder during the 45-minute stop.
Star Wars: Mos Espa - 120 EUR per Jeep 4x4 (can accommodate up to 6 people): Driven by professionals, get ready for some fun! You’ll jump over sand dunes, enjoy the peaceful desert views, and maybe even spot a mirage. Visit Ong Jmal, where Star Wars was filmed, and see how locals keep scorpions and snakes as pets. After the adventure, we’ll head back to the main road. All of this for around 120 EUR per jeep, which fits up to 6 people.
Chebika - Explore the stunning oasis in the desert. Enjoy the lush greenery and towering cliffs reminiscent of the American South. Relax by the beautiful waterfalls and wander along the paths to discover hidden spots in this peaceful retreat. If you like, you can take a refreshing swim in the clear water, though not for too long. We’ll also take a break here with café, snacks, and more.
The Great Mosque of Kairouan - At the Great Mosque of Okba, our final destination, you’ll have the opportunity to admire this historic landmark from a high vantage point. Experience the grandeur of one of the oldest and most significant mosques in North Africa as you take in the architectural marvels below. After soaking in the sight, indulge in a sampling of traditional sweets and tea from Kairouan, offered to you at no cost. It’s the perfect way to conclude your journey with a taste of local hospitality and culture.
