Ruines Romaines Tipaza - Tipasa offers a distinct ruin: not all areas have been excavated, and much of the city, initially explored by Stéphane Gsell in 1891, remains buried.
Currently, the ruins are divided into two main sections. The first is outside the city walls, at the present entrance, on the right side of the road from Algiers, featuring a large necropolis and the Sainte-Salsa cathedral. The second section is the archaeological park at the western edge of the modern city, containing most of the uncovered monuments. - Tombeau de la Chretienne - The Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania, often referred to as the Christian Tombs (due to a translation error) and Kabr Al Lumiya (Arabic for “Roman Tombs”), is situated in Sidi Rached, Wilaya, Tipaza, Algeria.
This mausoleum is a stone structure with a diameter of 60.9 m, a height of 32.4 m, and an area of approximately 80,000 m3. It features 60 decorated columns around its perimeter, each topped with Ionic capitals supporting a cornice.
Listed as a World Heritage Site in 1982 under criteria (iii) and (iv) as “Tipaza,” the Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania has been on the Tentative List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as “Royal Mausoleum” since 2002, under criteria (ii), (iii), and (iv) for “Islamic funerary monuments.”
