Waste of time and $ - We booked through Viator as we have many other times. We got a confirmation email and a follow-up email closer to the scheduled date - business as usual. We visited on a cruise, so were only there for a few hours. Which is why this oversight was a great impact on our vacation.
As soon as we docked, we took a cab to the tour location on our confirmation letter only to be told it was canceled due to an out of service boat, and that Viator was advised of this prior to my booking and that they should have never taken my reservation in the first place. I immediately logged in to my account and cancelled the tour requesting a full refund plus the $50 I spent on cabs back and forth. All I got was an email stating it would take 7-10 WORKING days for them to return my call/email because they need to get confirmation from the vendor - even though the tour was no longer available on their site; implying they know there is a problem.
I emailed for an update on day 9 and got the same response "they are waiting for a reply from the vendor and that they want a receipt for the cab fare" that I'm requesting to be refunded. The tour didn't come with transportation, so we clearly had to pay a cab to get to the location. How else were we supposed to get there?!
I finally received an email from Viator, two weeks after the scheduled tour, stating a full refund would be processed for only the tour amount and not my cab fees. The boat company never reached out to advise of the maintenance issue, to confirm the cancellation, or to apologize for the miscommunication.
