Ek Balam - Ek’ Balam (Jaguar Star) is a Mayan city that reached its peak during the Late Classic/Terminal period (600-850/900 AD) and possibly served as the seat of the “Tlalol” kingdom. The first known ruler of Ek’ Balam is Ukit Kan Le’t Tok (the father of the four flint fronts), who constructed most of the grand palace now known as the Acropolis, along with many other structures. He was also a key figure in promoting technical and cultural advancements, as well as architectural and decorative richness, exemplified by Structure 35 Sub, located within the Acropolis and known as Sak Xok Nahh (white house of reading). This structure served as the tomb for Ukit Kan Le’t Tok, who was interred with a lavish offering of over 7,000 items, including ceramic vessels, shell objects, snail, and tumbaga.
