• Runnymede National Trust - Over 800 years have passed since King John sealed the Magna Carta at Runnymede, following a dispute with the church and the imposition of high taxes to support the ongoing war with France.

In 1215, England was in political chaos. King John had become extremely unpopular, and a coalition of dissatisfied barons and influential clergy members had been exerting pressure on the king for years.

The situation reached a climax here in June when King John finally met with the barons to listen to their demands. By June 15, he agreed to seal the proposed ‘Great Charter of Liberty,’ enshrining their rights in law.

This landmark of individual rights and freedoms has inspired many significant constitutional documents, including the 1791 United States Bill of Rights and the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The Jurors memorial was added here in 2015, 800 years after this historic event.

Visitors will also see the John F Kennedy memorial, set in a symbolic acre of land donated to the USA by Queen Elizabeth II in 1965, in the presence of Prime Minister Harold Wilson. The inscription features words from President Kennedy’s inaugural address in 1961.

• Windsor Castle - The original settlement of Old Windsor has evidence of occupation dating back to the 7th century and was used by the Anglo-Saxon Kings for hunting. Its name likely derives from ‘Windleshore’ or ‘winding shore,’ referring to the bends of the meandering River Thames.

Lunch will be enjoyed at one of the riverside restaurants. Afterwards, there will be a leisurely stroll through the historic town of Windsor before entering the castle. The operator will accompany the group, but the castle’s audio guiding system is expected to be used. The operator will ensure nothing is missed and help make the most of the time in the grounds.

After picking you up from your location in central London, we’ll immediately set course for Windsor. Our first visit is to the castle. After touring inside, you’ll have a chance to grab lunch in the town and wander through its antiquated cobblestone streets. From there, we’ll journey to Runnymede Meadow, the historic spot where King John inked the Magna Carta in 1215. To conclude the trip, we’ll deliver you back to your original pickup point in central London.
