Inspiring, informative and truly magical - We had such a great time with Sam on the Harry Potter tour in Edinburgh. He turned out to be a true expert on J.K. Rowling and her Harry Potter novels. He took us on a wonderful journey through the history and creation of Harry Potter and connected it beautifully to the life of J.K. Rowling. Sam tells the story in a very engaging and authentic way – you can really feel his enthusiasm. The mix of background information, little anecdotes and the beautiful spots around the city made the tour special. By the end we were quite exhausted, but in the best possible way – impressed by the stories, the images he created in our minds, and by this lovely town.

Original & Unique Harry Potter Tour - this is a must! - I have only amazing things to say about Sam! He was beyond excellent - if you're after a deeply in-tune tour of Harry Potter then Sam is your guy - he knows it all and brings his own quirky side to the tour. Unique and original - I'm not sure why you'd consider anyone else actually. We loved it. Thanks Sam!

A Harry Potter tour going way beyond the surface - informative and fun. Massively magical. - Sam was a wonderful tour guide. His knowledge of the Harry Potter books and JK Rowling's personal development as a writer was second to none. It was fascinating to visit the original places where chapters of the books were written and where core events took place. Sam peppered his tour with role plays and magic tricks which made it fun and interactive. I can whole-heartedly recommend this tour to any serious Harry Potter and JK Rowling fans.

We learned a lot about JK Rowling and Harry Potter - We did a 4+ hour tour with Sam, and we were impressed by his vast knowledge of the Harry Potter world. He was able to answer every question we posed. We learned a great deal about JK Rowling and the struggles she went through while writing Harry Potter and getting the first book published. Sam took us to many locations throughout Old Town Edinburgh that may have inspired places in the books like Diagon Alley, Gringott’s, Hogwarts, the churchyard, etc. I really liked seeing the Greyfriars churchyard and all the stones with names that appear in the books. There were two fun action photo opportunities with Harry Potter themed props/costumes Sam provided. There was even a bit of magic! It was a fun day and we saw parts of Old Town that we never would have seen otherwise. I would caution that anyone going on this tour should be in reasonable physical condition, as we walked a long way (Sam walks quickly) and Edinburgh is rather hilly.

Great tour for potterheads - What a great experience to have Sam as a tour guide! Last year, our family travelled Scotland and, as potterheads, we could not pass up the opportunity to learn more about the city where most of the books were written and J.K. Rowlings life. Sam is friendly, chatty, fast and knowledgable beyound measure. Our three boys (non-native speakers) were well entertained. He included them and tried to bring them well into the tour. Costumes, photo-stops, little challenges along the way... anything to keep them busy and interested. No mean feat since only two kids spoke passable English. We all learned so much, both about the writing of the books and Edina and had a magical tour with Sam. Thanks for the great time!

Harry Potter history and lore while seeing beautiful Edinburgh - Excellent, thorough tour of Edinburgh highlighting so many spots of inspiration for the Harry Potter series. Sam is wonderful- knows so much history and lore and is happy to share it. He adds a ton of personal touches and magic to the tour, and you even stop in a museum for a bit. Our family all loved it so much and would recommend to anyone considering diving deep into Harry Potter history while visiting this gorgeous city. Sam will make your experience the best!

The pros: tour guide is... - The pros: tour guide is very knowledgeable about Rowling’s history and the influences on her writing both for Potter and her other works. There is a lot of information to take in! I’ve done another tour before and we went to about 1/3 of the locations this tour covers. Guide was always quick to point out places to sit to be comfortable and he incorporated some fun little interactive photos and wizardy activities to break up the time. Needs some fine tuning: the meeting point on the itinerary was incorrect so even though we were on time we were in the wrong starting location. The guide messaged us after we were 5 minutes “late” otherwise we would have missed it. it was very difficult to hear the guide and he also talked very fast so even though we speak English (well, American) it was hard to understand him at times. He also tends to walk fast so if you have mobility issues it might be difficult. There were some points about Rowling’s life that were pretty deep dive history - maybe about 30-45 minutes could be edited out. I’m a BIG Potter fan and it was a lot even for me. Overall, the guide is a sweet man that is very eager and enthusiastic to share his knowledge. He also makes a great effort to make it interactive by including fun little touches that I don’t want to mention to keep the surprise. Some of the details of Rowling’s life could be paired down and I wouldn’t recommend this tour for the casual fan.
