Dushanbe - Begin the Pamir Highway journey in Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan. After being picked up from the hotel, embark on a picturesque drive towards the Pamir region. The route traverses mountain valleys, quaint villages, riverside vistas, and the rural landscapes of southern Tajikistan.

Depending on road conditions and timing, there may be opportunities for brief photo stops along the way. This initial day primarily serves as a transfer day, offering travelers a captivating introduction to Tajikistan’s mountainous scenery before delving into the deeper Pamirs.

Nurek - Upon departing Dushanbe, the journey proceeds through the Nurek area, one of the most visually stunning early segments en route to the Pamirs. The scenery transitions from urban surroundings to expansive hills, mountain roads, and sweeping valley views.

This region is renowned for the impressive Nurek Reservoir, often referred to as the “Tajik Sea” due to its vast blue waters encircled by arid mountains. Depending on timing and road conditions, travelers can enjoy a brief photo stop to admire the reservoir and surrounding hills.

Today’s route follows the Panj River, which serves as the natural border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. For much of the journey, travelers can observe Afghan villages, mountain paths, and traditional houses across the river.
