Dushanbe – Norak – Kalaikhum (370 km) 8 hrs drive

Qalaikhumb - Today, the journey leads to Kalai Khum village. Witness the Norak water reservoir, often referred to as the Tajik Sea. The highest point reached today is the Shurabad pass (2,267 m), followed by a drive along the Afghanistan border. This segment will captivate you with its distinctive mountains, marking the beginning of the Pamir mountain region. Throughout history, the Pamirs have inspired renowned explorers like Marco Polo, Hsuan Tsang, and Mirza Muhammad Haidar. Now, it’s your opportunity to experience it firsthand. The drive will follow the natural borders of the Pyanj River. Many travelers have described the Pamirs as an ocean of white and blue mountains. Qalaikhumb - This region features towering rocky mountains exceeding 6,000 meters, with only one road constructed. Traveling through the Pamirs offers a unique chance to appreciate the pristine environment and learn about the ethnography, history, and daily life of mountain inhabitants, providing insight into the evolution of human history. Stops in small villages along the way allow for interaction with locals and a glimpse into their lives. Human settlements are nestled on both sides of the river in narrow mountain valleys. Across the river, observe Afghan stone villages and gardens.

Kalaikhum - Dushanbe (380 km) – 7hrs drive

Dushanbe - Kalaikhum – Khaburabot pass – Dushanbe - > In the morning, the drive to Dushanbe continues along the mountain road. The route traverses the high Khoburubot pass (3,252 m), known as the Western Pamir Highway. The road winds through the most scenic river valleys and gorges in the area, offering opportunities to pause, rest, and capture photos of the stunning mountains and rivers. Along the journey, small villages and friendly locals can be encountered.
