• The Octagon - Begin the tour here and discover the remarkable buildings that remain in the heart of town. Their survival is more due to fortune than strategic planning.
• Dunedin Railway Station - This station is the second most photographed building in the southern hemisphere, following the Sydney Opera House. Visitors can explore the foyer, adorned with Royal Doulton tiled walls and a mosaic floor composed of around half a million pieces. Although currently under renovation and covered with scaffolding, a picture of the building has been thoughtfully printed on the exterior!
• Toitu Otago Settlers Museum - As we pass Toitu, we encounter Josephine, Otago’s first locomotive, and hear its fascinating story—how it arrived, was nearly forgotten, and ultimately preserved.
• Queens Garden - At Queens Gardens, the story of the first Scottish settlers unfolds, detailing their warm welcome by the Kai Tahu Maori, their challenges with rain and mud, and the reasons it was all worthwhile.
• Princes Street - In the Exchange area, observe the winged monkeys of the Cargill memorial and other whimsical stone carvings.
• Broadway Medical Centre Dunedin Ltd - Currently a medical centre, Broadway was once home to a large shopping centre where Mr. and Mrs. Loft ran a shoe shop, leading to a scandalous and tragic conclusion.
• Speight’s Brewery - Conclude the tour here, where more intriguing buildings surround the area. Guests are invited to stay at Speight’s to enjoy a drink in the restaurant and gift shop, or continue the loop back to the Octagon, our starting point.
