- Dumbarton Castle - This tour for you and your private group is completely adaptable. You can propose modifications to the itinerary, even on the day of the tour. If time and location permit, your driver will endeavor to accommodate your requests. Depart from Glasgow and travel west towards Loch Lomond. The first stop is Dumbarton Castle, which boasts the oldest recorded history of any Scottish fortress, dating back to the 5th century when Saint Patrick sent a letter to King Ceretic. This was the first documented mention of a settlement there. Since then, Viking Kings, William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots, and Queen Elizabeth II have visited.
- Luss - After leaving Dumbarton, it’s a short drive to your first glimpse of ‘The Bonnie, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond,’ as mentioned in the Scottish folk song “You take the High Road and I’ll take the Low Road.” Loch Lomond has the largest surface area of any lake on the British mainland, stretching over 23 miles. Just 10 minutes later, we arrive at Luss, one of Scotland’s most popular villages. Stroll past charming sandstone and slate cottages to the pier for stunning views up and down Loch Lomond and across to the mountains. From the pier, it’s a brief walk to the atmospheric church graveyard, which features graves dating back to 600AD/700AD, including a Viking hogback gravestone.
- Rest and be Thankful - Traveling north from Luss, we circle the head of Loch Long, a sea loch, which is a long, narrow inlet of the sea similar to a fjord in Scandinavia. The tour ascends to The Rest and be Thankful, a renowned pass that separates Glen Kinglas from Glen Croe. Pause at a viewpoint to enjoy breathtaking views in all directions, surrounded closely by the rugged Highlands with heather, mountainsides, and forests.
- Inveraray - Departing from The Rest and be Thankful, we descend to Loch Fyne, another sea loch, famous for its seafood. The Loch Fyne Oyster Bar at the top of the loch features a restaurant (open 5 days, closed on Tuesday and Wednesday) and a delicatessen (open 7 days). Inveraray, located on Loch Fyne, is a charming village set in a grand scenic location on the western shore. Besides exploring the village, a walk to the picturesque Inveraray Castle is a popular activity for visitors. The castle grounds are open year-round, allowing you to walk right up to the front door, although entrance to the castle interior and gardens is from April to the end of October (open 5 days, closed on Tuesday and Wednesday), and an entrance fee is required.
- Kilchurn Castle - Depending on time and your preferences, two additional attractions can be visited. Kilchurn Castle, built around 1450, remains impressive despite being long abandoned. It sits at the top of Loch Awe, surrounded by mountains both near and far, making it a dramatic photo location. A 30-minute visit to St Conan’s Kirk, just 5 minutes from Kilchurn Castle, is also possible. This unique and beautiful church, perched on the edge of Loch Awe, is described as enchanting, magical, and fascinating—a wonderful stop. Return to Glasgow. Your tour is custom-made as well. If there are specific places you wish to visit or experiences you want to have, let us know, and we will do our best to include them in your tour. From here, the final leg of the tour is a 60-minute drive back to Glasgow.
