Island Hopping in Dubrovnik: A Family Adventure on the Elaphiti Cruise

Eager to explore the hidden beauty of Dubrovnik’s Elaphiti Islands, I embarked on a full-day cruise that promised relaxation and adventure. Join me as I recount a day filled with island hopping, delicious Dalmatian cuisine, and unforgettable family moments.

Setting Sail on the Adriatic

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that offer both relaxation and adventure, and the Elaphiti Islands Cruise in Dubrovnik seemed to promise just that. Our journey began at the bustling harbor of Lapadska Obala, where the Regina Maris awaited us. The ship was a gleaming white beauty, and as we boarded, I could feel the excitement in the air. The crew welcomed us warmly, setting the tone for a day of exploration and leisure.

Our first stop was the island of Koločep, a lush paradise known for its dense pine forests and hidden caves. The kids were thrilled to dip their toes into the crystal-clear waters, and I couldn’t resist joining them for a quick swim. The island’s natural beauty was captivating, and we took our time strolling along the beach, sampling local treats from small stalls. It was the perfect start to our island-hopping adventure.

A Taste of Dalmatia on Šipan

Next, we sailed to Šipan, where a delicious Dalmatian-style lunch awaited us. The aroma of freshly cooked chicken filled the air as we sat down to enjoy our meal, accompanied by a refreshing bottle of local white wine. Sharing the table with another couple, we exchanged stories and laughter, making the experience even more memorable.

After lunch, we explored the charming village of Suđurađ. The kids were fascinated by the traditional architecture, and we all enjoyed a leisurely walk around the bay area. The local stands offered a taste of authentic island flavors, with olive oil and wine that were simply delightful. It was a wonderful opportunity to immerse ourselves in the island’s culture and history.

Discovering Lopud’s Hidden Gems

Our final destination was Lopud, the crown jewel of the Elaphiti Islands. Known for its stunning beaches and historic landmarks, Lopud offered something for everyone. While the kids played on the golden sands of Šunj Beach, my husband and I decided to explore the island’s rich history.

We wandered through the botanical gardens, a serene escape filled with exotic plants and flowers. The monastery near the port was a highlight, with its fascinating gatehouse and beautiful paintings in the main church. Although the heat was intense, we took it slow, savoring each moment and staying hydrated with the chilled water provided on the boat.

As the sun began to set, we returned to the Regina Maris, feeling content and fulfilled. The Elaphiti Islands Cruise had been a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration, offering a glimpse into the authentic island life of Dubrovnik. It was a day well spent, and one that I would highly recommend to any family looking for a memorable adventure in Croatia.
