- Trinity College Dublin - Explore the campus. To visit the Old Library and Book of Kells, book the 5-hour tour ‘(Nearly!) All of Dublin in 5 hours’. Campus access is restricted to groups of 8 or fewer unless Old Library tickets are pre-purchased (per Trinity’s regulations). Established in 1592 as a Protestant university, Trinity was a source of contention for Ireland’s Catholic majority until at least 1970. Over the years, it has educated notable figures like Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift, Bram Stoker, and Samuel Beckett, the renowned 20th-century playwright.
- The Book of Kells & Old Library - Coordinate with your guide to secure tickets in advance.
- Temple Bar - Wander through the cobblestone streets of the iconic Temple Bar area. Your guide will reveal authentic local spots (street art, bohemian shops) and hidden treasures in this overly touristy area.
- Dublin Castle - Discover the grounds of Dublin Castle (upper and lower courtyards, Chapel Royal, Dubh Linn Gardens) without entering interiors, which require an official Dublin Castle tour.
- Christ Church Cathedral - Visit the exterior of Christ Church Cathedral and/or St Patrick’s Cathedral. Originally a wooden church built around 1030, and possibly a pagan shrine before that, the stone Christchurch began in the 1180s and has undergone numerous restorations and changes. The neo-gothic architecture makes Christchurch arguably Dublin’s most beautiful complex. The vast crypt beneath the cathedral is noteworthy for its size, intriguing curiosities, and its past as a pub, distillery, and brothel in the 18th century.
- Ha’penny Bridge - Cross the iconic Ha’Penny Bridge, a symbol of Dublin. Look upriver towards the Guinness Brewery (perhaps you’ll catch the scent of hops boiling) or downriver towards the Custom House and the modern Docklands area. Or simply pause to admire the lovers’ locks.
- National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology - Closed on Mondays. On this tour, choose between the National Museum (free entry) or the Book of Kells (paid entry). Coordinate with your guide after booking. It’s recommended to book this tour along with our Museums tour for an excellent Dublin experience.
- Leinster House - Leinster House
- The O’Connell Monument - Daniel O’Connell was a pioneer in demonstrating the power of civil disobedience and peaceful resistance. A revered hero for the Irish, having achieved Catholic Emancipation, he is affectionately known as ‘The Liberator’, and the main street of the capital city is aptly named after him.
- Bank of Ireland - Former Parliament Building. In the 18th century, Dublin was the second city of the British Empire, and the subtle patriotism of Irish-born politicians of the time is to be credited. Today, Dublin’s architectural landscape is adorned with numerous buildings from this era, giving it an appearance older than Paris and London.
- St Stephens Green - Donated to the city in 1880 by a member of the Guinness family, Stephen’s Green is still cherished by Dubliners today and is likely their favorite part of the city. Stroll through the lush greenery along the curved Victorian walkways and keep an eye out for the rare sight of an Irish person sunbathing!
- Grafton Street - Despite the brands and overt consumerism, Grafton retains its charm. In fact, Grafton Street is one of the last remnants of old Dublin. Admire the flower vendors, enjoy the buskers (street musicians) as you make your way to Bewleys Café, Ireland’s oldest and largest café, established in 1927.
- An Post General Post Office - It was outside this grand building on Easter Monday that Padraig Pearse read the Declaration of Irish Independence, leading a rebellion with 1600 comrades that shook an empire. The GPO remains a site of historical significance for Dubliners and Irish people, though many tourists overlook its importance. It should be on the top 5 list of sites to visit.
- City Hall - A key location of the 1916 Easter Rising and an example of Dublin’s 18th-century architecture. Entry is possible unless a private event is taking place.
