Dublin - Part 1: The History & The Language
Embark on a visual exploration of the roots of Irish writing, starting from Ogham, moving through Insular script, and advancing to Cló Gaelach. Discover the evolution of this script over centuries, with a focus on exquisite prints, including the Irish Constitution. Learn about the fate of Cló Gaelach and its recent revival. Additionally, explore Hiberno-English, influenced by the Irish language, and acquire some essential Irish phrases for your visit.
Part 2: The Art of the Pen
With specially crafted practice sheets, participants will be guided through each stroke of the Cló Gaelach script, offering an enjoyable way to engage with this script while examining authentic printed examples from the 20th century.
Part 3: The Masterpiece
Once participants have mastered the flow, they will write a poem in Irish, selected from a century-old Irish poetry book by a local female Dublin poet.
After the session, participants will receive a curated digital resource pack.
