• The Dresden Zwinger - Completed in the 18th century as a venue for court festivals, the Zwinger is one of Germany’s most significant Baroque structures, featuring ornate pavilions, gardens, galleries, and sculptures. It stands as one of the most frequented landmarks in Dresden and Saxony. The Zwinger comprises six Baroque buildings located in the city center. The grounds are adorned with Baroque statues and a stunning park. Within the complex, there are three museums: the Old Masters Picture Gallery, the Mathematical and Physical Salon showcasing historical scientific instruments, and the Porcelain Collection with exhibits from around the globe. The castle is situated adjacent to the renowned Semper Opera House and the cathedral on Opera Square.
• Frauenkirche Dresden - Built in 1743 on the site of an old wooden chapel, the Baroque Frauenkirche is a symbol of Dresden. It is notable for its distinctive dome, over twenty-six meters high, known as the “stone bell,” which is among the largest north of the Alps. This unique masterpiece is often compared to Michelangelo’s dome of St. Peter’s in Rome. During World War II, the church was completely destroyed by bombing and fire. Reconstruction began in 1994, utilizing much of the surviving material, and was guided by historical photographs, culminating in 2005. The new gilded cross adorning the church was crafted in London as a gesture of reconciliation. The original damaged cross is displayed to the right of the church’s new altar.
