Central Food Crawl was a wonderful cultural learning experience. They were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions (no pork or beef). The diner and dim sum restaurant that we went to would have been very difficult to order from on our own, and then we would have missed out on tasty noodles, dumplings, steamed buns and more. I could have stayed at the wet market for hours learning about all the unique fruits, vegetables and traditional Hong Kong food items. Each mangosteen fruit that they helped me select was perfectly ripe and delicious. The traditional snacks that they introduced us to are so tasty - the mother of all Rice Krispy Treats. The extensive tea tasting that concluded the tour was amazing and transformed my perspective on what a cup of tea can be. The tour guides were great company and gracious hosts.
We would like to have seen a wider range of food and heard more about the culture of Chinese food. It might help to have a narrative about the history or architecture of where we are, the type of restaurants available and the food usually eaten. We enjoyed visiting the tea house and the beer shop. Thank you for helping me find the tea I was looking for.
The Hong Kong Night Food Crawler Tour was simply amazing. Ashley Yue, founder and owner of the Hong Kong Food Crawlers, provided my family with a tailored tour of the local food scene. We started out in San Wan Ho where we tasted some of the best street food in the local markets. We tried some tasty stuffed Chinese style crepes with meat and vegetable fillings which were full of flavor and scrumptious. The beef and fish balls on a stick were cooked to perfection and tasty as well. Just a short walk away from the night market at the end of a back alley we sampled a Chinese comfort food dish. The dish consisted of white rice smothered with eggs and oyster sauce. Its a dish your grandma would make for you. It was simply delicious. Off we went to Causeway via the MTR to a local restaurant where the locals lined up outside the restaurant to have their evening meal. Our meal consisted of snake soup, roasted pork, steamed chicken, Chinese sausages, savory glutinous rice with pork and vegetables, and stir fried vegetables. The meal was great and everyone was satisfied and stuffed. When you think you had enough, Ashley then took us for dessert at the next stop along the food crawl. We sampled some durian, mango pancakes, and mango sorbet. They were all yummy and delicious. The end of our tour was literally the high point of our food crawl. We took the MTR to Central where we took the world's longest outdoor escalator to our final stop to the mid-levels on Hong Kong island where we had snake wine, phenomenal ice cream sandwiches, and sake bombs at one of the trendiest night spots in Hong Kong. The snake wine was actually very good. In fact, one of the best drinks I've had in quite a long time. My hat is off to Ashley for curating a fabulous night of food and fun for my family. My kids range in age from 24 thru 31 years old and they have traveled the world for food and adventure and cited that this is the best tour that they have ever experienced. Ashley is engaging, accommodating, and extremely knowledgeable about the local Hong Kong food scene. If you're ever in Hong Kong, this tour is a must do.
