Beijing’s evening cuisine offers much more than the bustling tourist markets with insects and mystery meats on skewers! Instead, join our intimate group food tour to discover delectable, local dishes alongside Beijingers in a traditional Hutong neighborhood. Experience authentic dishes perfected by Chinese chefs over millennia, while learning about Beijing’s rich history and culture.
- Hutong Tour - Venture deep into the hutongs with us to uncover some of the city’s finest culinary delights. These meandering alleyways are alive with local neighborhood activity, and some of the best family-run shops are nestled within these lanes.
- Nuoyan Rice Wine Shop - Historians believe rice wine (mijiu) was first brewed by the Chinese around 1,000 BC. The rice wine technique then spread from China to other East Asian regions; in Japan, it became sake, and in Korea, cheongju and makkoli. We’ll visit a contemporary, local boutique mijiu producer to sample a six-cup selection of their artisanal rice wine. The delightful flavors range from osmanthus to rose to the intriguing original flavor.
- Ghost Street (Gui Jie) - Meet your guide at the end of Guijie, or Ghost Street, and discover why this is one of the city’s most popular streets for snacks.
